How can people dislike this video? It was pretty straight forward. There are still some old generation Ridgeline owners; thank you!

Transmission fluid looked abysmal, and usually you break the fill port before you drain as it could be stuck. Still liked the video though.

Always loosen your fill bolt before you drain, in case that fill port is seized.

Almost ran into that issue earlier, but I got it unstuck. Great advice!

Honda ATF is measured with Engine off in case you weren't clear on that

Yeah he should have done some research before making a how to video 📸📷

thank you for the video. very to the point and straightforward. This looks much easier than the "sealed" transmission on my Toyota Camry

This generation Ridgeline has a drain and fill capacity of 3.3 quarts, not 4 quarts.

I have used this ATF in a Honda odyssey which was z1 I only had it in it for a month before switch to Honda dw1 (what replaced z1) the shifting quality had issues. As soon as I went to dw1 instantly shifting was smoother. I think the Honda fluid is really IDEMITSU Type H+
@sabunh2 жыл бұрын
No, there is very bad advice here. You should always use Honda ATF DW-1 now that Z1 is discontinued) and you're supposed to check the transmission fluid level with the engine/transmission hot, but OFF. Always engine OFF with the Ridgeline. That's probably why your level was low, and now you may well have overfilled it by 1/3. You also omitted the crush washer when you put the drain plug back in. Wow.

Valvoline Maxlife is fine. Calm down
@mikeschlup52799 ай бұрын
Crush washers can last 2 or 3 drain and fills...Honda ATF is not proprietary...I use Redline D 6.
@sabunh9 ай бұрын
@@mikeschlup5279 truth is you can reuse a crush washer almost indefinitely, until it’s thin as foil. You’re just going to have to torque it down harder and harder each time and risk thermal expansion loosening it up sooner. Have at it. For me, the cost of a few crush washers to have on-hand and use each time is well worth the peace of mind. You do you.

it is not fine to use! maxlife is not formulated for Hondias, only "ONLY" DW1 is! @@wagu7003

Does it have a filter??
@garychambers59302 жыл бұрын
Yeah but it's inside so you'd have to take the transmission completely apart
@mikeschlup52799 ай бұрын
Which is why you keep the fluid fresh.

After watching this I would not rely on any APDTY videos to provide correct advice. This video has not been corrected or taken down for over 3 years.

Mine took 4 quarts, hot, engine off, waiting 30 to 90 seconds then check, other wise its below the bottom mark ,and that's how much came out
@DCSPORTSTER7 ай бұрын
This video is wrong on checking Honda transmission fluid you drive the vehicle get it hot SHUT ENGINE OFF and check the fluid between 30 and 90 seconds to check level. Drain and fill add 3 L road test then top up fluid.
@dfields95112 ай бұрын
Yea and they shouldn’t have used Valvoline maxlife atf. Don’t ask me how I know
@jamesguralski5156 Жыл бұрын
Hey cheese! No tranny filter change?
@KMPandme Жыл бұрын
Older series has an internal filter that needs case split to access, so no filter change
@DCSPORTSTER7 ай бұрын
@@KMPandme I installed an in-line filter on mine to keep the fluid cleaner so far so good. I put it in the line running back to the transmission from the transmission cooler.

No crush washer for drain plug? Torque spec?
@garychambers59302 жыл бұрын
It is supposed to 33 ft/lbs
@ryangross54462 жыл бұрын
It has the washer stuck on the bolt usually, at least thats how it is on my truck
@tomc81156 ай бұрын
Drain plug - the one underneath the truck - is 36 lb-ft. The 17 mm ATF filler bolt in the engine bay is 33 lb-ft.

I wouldn’t use anything besides Honda brand ATF

That's all in gonna run in my Ridgeline Hondas definitely like their own fluid
