Got an 07 Honda Ridgeline. About to do this also. Thanks for the vid. For anyone interested Honda recommends SAE 80-90 Hypoid type gear oil for this transfer case job. They charge about $50 per quart. But I was told by their parts department you can use any SAE 80-90 weight gear oil as long as it says "where GL-5 is specified." This covers vehicles where Hypoid type oil is necessary and will save you big money. On a separate note, The rear differential uses VTM-4 differential fluid. Do not use VTM-4 in the transfer case! I paid $65 for a gallon from Honda as that was the only size they had. Finally the transmission requires ATF DW-1 fluid. Honda no longer manufactures ATF-Z1 and has replaced it with ATF DW-1. Hope this helps.

I'm surprised they were going to charge you $50 for a quart of hypoid oil. Did you check any other dealerships? Mine was $20 and transmission fluid $10. I will say they were more expensive on crush washers though, and other dealerships only wanted .58 per.

@@dakotagoble1571 Probably much cheaper options. I'm in Hawaii so everything is stupid expensive. Only one dealership too.

Love the videos, I’ve got an 08 and your videos have helped me save a lot of money. It’s a confidence builder watching someone else do it first. Thanks!

Thanks for doing this! I like that you did fluid changes without using a jack or a lift. I have everything needed to change fluids (transmission, transfer case, differential, and motor oil) but my friend who has my jack and stands is out of town. So, under I scoot. Thank you also for speaking clearly!

Thank you for your videos. We just got a 2006 Ridge line from a friend and it has 185 thousand miles on it and I went to Honda for all the oils. I didn’t know about this so thank you again the truck runs so much smoother it barely had any transmission fluid and that vtm was nasty that the light was on.

I realise that the washer should be replaced but never understood why. I have never replaced any of them with any of my vehicles over the last 20 years. That includes my tractors. No leaks ever.

I put in 0.43L like the manual said. It didnt overflow. I measured what came out and sure enough it was the same amount i put in. Im guessing it doesnt make a difference if you go to the overflow point because the gear is just spinning in a pool of gear oil.

You should always recycle your oil. Most auto parts stores will take it for free.

Do you raise the truck to work more comfortable? Is it necessary?thanks for the video
@jayanmanol5 жыл бұрын
Should not raise the truck while filling fluid. Make sure the vehicle is in a flat level floor.

No kidding! That gear oil smells like strong pee. I usually do all the service on my car but leave the diff to my mechanic friend as i get lite headed smelling it.
