Great work , wasn't aware of the nikasil bore coating . What are your thoughts on sleeves and wonder if they would have to be coated .
@rowlandrestorations Жыл бұрын
Thanks! You can think of the nikasil as the substitute for the steel liner, they serve the same function as a tough cylinder wall that won't wear against the steel piston rings. Nikasil is technically harder than steel and therefore more resistant, but doing a recoating will be much more difficult than replacing with a steel liner. The benefit with inserting a steel liner into the aluminum cylinder block is that you can overbore it when it wears out or gets damaged. You won't need to recoat it. So it can allow for more rebuilds whereas the nikasil being worn either needs a bore and then replate or replace the cylinder altogether.

@@rowlandrestorationsDo you have a suggestion on the sleeves part number? About to start this process, about to start tearing into one and what damage was done for being left with saltwater in the engine and left to sit for 4 years…. Ugh

@@user-ym9wb2mk5e So I bought some unfinished sleeves off ebay but the cost to get them machined and installed for me was the same as buying a new cylinder. I just get a new cylinder now instead of worrying about sleeving. Part number: 11005-3768. You can ask your local machine shop about sleeves and go with their recommendation. I just had no luck with that. Good luck!

@@user-ym9wb2mk5e So sorry! Thought I replied to this! And I ended up buying some cheap sleeves off eBay but I couldn’t find a machine shop near me that would work on the cylinder. I ended buying a new cylinder from Kawasaki 11005-3768. Try your local machine shops and see what they can do for you. Good luck!
