I like the design of this bike. The two symmetrical exhausts are nice. The full fairing is nice too. It looks stylish. A real passenger seat. Kawasaki made very good looking bikes in the 80's and 90's, such as zzr 1100, zzr 250, gpz 900. Nowadays, the kawasaki style has changed much. Very futuristic look which does not appeal to me.

This was a very futuristic, cutting-edge tech look back then. It’s why everyone rushed out to buy one after seeing Tom Cruise ride the original Ninja in Too Gun. ;) This style basically invented the modern fully-fared sport bike. I also dislike the more angular and aggressive look they have these days… especially the insect-like face and floating windscreens. The most appealing look to me is the 2005-2006 ZX-6R and 2008-2012 Ninja 250R. They look both modern and fast without looking like they are trying too hard to intimidate. I especially like the undertail exhaust and swingarm of the old ZX-6R.

yeah, it's like a smaller version of a perfect / iconic 90's japanese sportbike. and if you're shorter and smaller - you can pretend to be Tom Cruise, but you might want to peel the flames off of the plastic first like I did lol.

I'm on my 3rd year with my 06 Ninja 250 - identical to the one in the video, plus a couple dents and scrapes I added because new rider. But $1,700 got me on one in good shape with 10K on it, and I'm over 17K now. The biggest thing I had to adjust to as a new rider coming from a car universe is learning that the Ninja is perfectly happy to cruise all day at 9,000RPM on the highway. Do your basic maintenance and the bike is nearly un-killable. But I disagree with you, I think the Ninja 250 is the perfect starter bike. It'll do anything you ask it to. Cheap to buy/insure/ride/maintain, and when you're ready for another bike, you can sell it for nearly what you paid for it after a couple of years.

2:16 “… that’s because it was designed in the ‘90s.” Nah, that was designed in 1986 for release in 1987 for the 1988 model year. EX250F was from MY 1988 to 2007. Technically, those aspects were designed even earlier since the MY1988 refresh was meant to make it look more like the original Ninja (GPZ900R) by adding a lower fairing. Same boxy flat-faced headlight, same long banana seat, same integrated tail with the blinkers moved onto stalks for regulatory compliance, etc.

Get the past 07 Ninja 250 if you do. 88-07 parts for the Ninja 250 can be hard to get and the panels are expensive. New under cowling is 500 bucks. Excellent points about buying one used and not knowing if it's good to go - I think getting it checked over is a first must, especially the brakes and wheels/ tires! Totally agree, if you want to try a ninja 250 - get it as good as can be, because that's still not that great, as you point out. I actually had an issue where someone didn't hook up the rear brake right when I first got one and had a tire replaced, and yeah it went kinda unpredictably sideways in a heavy stop on a downhill and I was lucky I didn't crash. where I would disagree with you, is I would say to think of the 250 like a cross between a moped and a full sized motorcyle. coming back from Thailand and wanting a motorcycle in the US, it made sense to me at the time. But yeah, I also hear you about it not being the best bike and stuff. Feeling kinda hairy on the highway, and not being necessarily the most reliable or comfortable/ smooth on a daily driver basis - it is it's own thing kinda, maybe a nice moped or scooter would even be better for that use.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with cheaping out on your first bike, and I would actually recommend it. My first bike was a $2100 dual sport that was rough and I had no fears of dropping it and no need for a big engine with high speeds. The money I saved allowed me to buy a nicer helmet and jacket. Newbies should should buy budget used bikes and spend their cash on a good helmet an jacket if possible instead.

They were different styles too. I got on this bike and from the literal first time I got on it I felt like this size was exactly what I needed to learn on. Are the mechanics of this bike annoying yes thank god my SO works on bikes for a hobby. I don’t want to learn on a new bike. I don’t want to feel like shit when I drop it ( cause I have and will drop it lol ) I’ll probably want something else one day but for $1000 and super low miles and the seat height is so low I can actually flat foot!!!!!! This bike was exactly what I needed at least for now. 😊

I too bought a Ninja 250H; the version from 2001 with a big ass aluminum frame. It is hard to work on the carbs because of the large frame. On the road now, I have put on 340 km in the last week. The thing I need to get used to is the intense revs this thing takes on. 100km/hr. @ 8000 RPM. It is very nimble and gets pushed around by wind gusts but I think this is a great first bike due to it's size overall. It is really cheap on gas even using 94 octane as it has a 12 to 1 compression ratio.

FYI: This guy is kinda snobby. Riding a motorcycle is not a sport because your not competing with anyone. Also if you need 1000's of dollars in safety gear to feel safe on a bike, you probably should be driving a car. That's not to say safety doesn't matter but only to point out if your main priority is safety you shouldn't put yourself on a bike. Ninja 250 is a great place to start to learn how to ride and work on stuff. If your like this guy and you don't know what a wrench is then yes go buy a new bike and take it to the dealership once a month.

Nope. It was not designed in the 90s, but the 80s. It has the classic 80s Kawasaki sport bike look. Also, a couple of points with your riding: I didn't see you do a single over-the-shoulder check before any left or right turns you made or before changing lanes on the highway. This "lifesaver" check is essential for your safety as the mirrors do not show you what's in your blind spots. Also, smooth and steady is the name of the game as far as safety is concerned on a motorcycle. The needless weaving back and forth across your lane from side to side that you do puts you at risk. You should be concentrating on what's ahead of you, not on the weaving, and furthermore you never know when a dangerous road user (bike or car) is going to want to overtake you and take some of your lane. You don't want to be suddenly weaving and changing your position within your lane for no reason.
@benjaminrusk866511 ай бұрын
