Would just to say thankyou for making these videos available, changed my clutch today (first time ever :D )and followed it as much as I could. Apart from an issue with a rounded off bolt on the gear and clutch assembly mount that I had to cut off and extract later, it all went seamlessly. The only other problem was getting it back in, it took me laying underneath the car and 2 old guys I borrowed from houses on my street hauling on ropes to finally get it in place. I was going to say "jesus, this guy must work out a lot" but then I realised if you are pushing big lumps of weight like that around every day you probably don't need to. You make it look a lot easier than it is.

I applaud you Kevin, I am currently doing my clutch on my 107 and this video has helped alot, but boy is it hard work even on such a simple car! and having the right tools for the job is essential, the video makes it look simple and quick which just goes to show how skilful you are, I've hit a few snags along the way so my car is still on axle stands while parts are on order! Thanks for taking the time to make great content ;-) this is the one and only time I will be doing my own clutch replacement, really thinking i'm 20 years younger has done me no favours. Cheers Kevin - Great work!

George that’s excellent you’re tackling your own repair. What set back did you have with parts.
@Fual4eva4 жыл бұрын
@@WMCScheers Kevin, Ah its nothing much, two of the Castle nuts spigots broke off from the control arm ball joints and I found it impossible to source a new one, a scrap yard is probably the only option, then I realised the ball joint seal had a small split in it so decided to order a set of new control arms to be sure all would be ok, then there were the drop links that are perished and need replacing, also noticed the brake discs were worn and the pads were also getting on the low side, it's turned out to be an expensive job but handy in a way that I can tackle it myself......just! Brakes are not a problem but removing the gearbox was certainly a challenge, I've yet to get it back in place which I imagine will be worse than taking it off, well for me anyway, I ain't the fittest of blokes for sure, but I hate being beaten so it will get done one way or another though I underestimated the level of difficulty given my age and health issues......you're a task master Kevin and produce great content with excellent camera angles etc. THANKYOU. Oh what I'd give for a decent impact driver, impact sockets and that all important universal joint!

Nice work. I've done a few of these. This engine has also been put in the Yaris - only difference is the sump is different so there is no plate at the bottom, the O2 sensor harness is attached to the rad fan and the gear selector mechanism and gearbox mount is a different design. Main thing to watch out for on these is that bolt through the subframe for the rear engine mount. A few of them its taken a 1 meter breaker bar backwards and forwards to work the bolt out. The impact just wouldn't shift it. It's hard working outside at this time of year the way the weather is!

the 106/Saxo era are Probably one of the easiest clutches ive ever done on a small FWD car. Absolute cake walk and can quite easily be done on a drive. The 107 isn't much more difficult. Honestly. If you have a comprehensive tool set, decent space and a little bit of knowhow. You can do it too. A clutch kit of these can be picked up from as little as £50 to £100 depending on vendor and brand. You're looking at about 180-250 in parts + Labour at a garage. Crazy difference really

As someone who attempted to replace the clutch on a 107 I can confirm that it is easier said than done. Rusty-crusty bolts do snap off and old bolts round off. Sadly I ended up replacing the O/S wishbone and both drop links. And impact sockets and extensions are a must. I highly advise not to try this if you don't have all the necessary tools!

My "garage/workshop" has 3 walls, but no doors in the front! Reasonable for a carport, but really lousy for a garage! Meaning that on a -18C Winter day tend to be "not pleasant", to keep it mild. There's the choice of putting appropriate clothes, gloves and so on. But then you can't move! Or be more agile but can't stand more than half an hour without going inside and get warmer! @19.11 , why do u need a clutch aligner tool i mean why carnt it seamlessly line up with out 1 , as its only just a spline on a sprocket ?? Iv never understood this bit , of it beng aligned to a mm 🤔
@colin50644 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin. curious to know why you use red rubber grease to lube up your clutch work jobs,this seems a strange choice to me. Also having watched three of your videos now,l have yet to see you change a pilot bearing. l know most clutch kits only come as three piece items is this the reason? Next week i will change a Jeep Wrangler YJ 4.0 1995 clutch ,the kit comes with a pilot bearing and an alignment tool. Do you only change the pilot bearing when you find them damaged,or if in a supplied kit would you change them at extra time and cost?
@WMCS4 жыл бұрын
Hi Colin. Red rubber grease stops oxidisation .,, so the bolts won’t seize up .,, on the spline is where it matters the most as a lot of friction plate through moisture builds up dry rust and binds the clutch causing premature wear .,, rubber grease doesn’t disintegrate so will always keep the plate moving freely.
@WMCS4 жыл бұрын
We don’t really have pilot bearing here. We keep it simple .,, and if it does have it then it’s built in the flywheel.,,
@grapsorz4 жыл бұрын
did you get the upgraded disc? and was that the upgraded fork? this cars have had some problems with the clutch and some changes thru the years. when i change the clutch on other cars i usually do the oil seal on the crank as well.. that might not be needed here as you need to do this so often? i remember on the corolla the clutch lasted until 340k km.
