Going to do the EXACT job right now. Thanks for mentioning all the sizes. Have done front bearings on front wheel drive before 1/2 dozen times. Have always separated the lower ball joint to get axle through bearing. After watching this I am not sure why. Your way is WAY better.

Great video. Thanks you saved me 300$ in labor costs in CA. Just a heads up my wheel bearing has never been replaced before and you have to use a strong hammer to bag it out. Half of the bearing assemble comes out while the other half stays inside. You will have to use a punch to bag the rest of it out. Last note My grand Prix GT is an 06 and it used a 33mm socket just rent the large socket kit from your local Parts Source to make sure all sizes are covered. This way you won't have to make a trip back. Hope my feedback helped.

Great video. I'm going to be doing this later this week. I knew it wasn't too awful involved but it's always nice to see a good video first just to prepare yourself.

Absolutely! I do the same thing when taking on something I'm not familiar with!

it depends on what brand of hub assembly used as to how fast they go bad. the cheap ones last for 10k miles. acdelco & moog last 20-30k. but if you want one that will really last buy the SKF hub assembly. i have over 50k on mine and its still going. they are bout the same price as acdelco, maybe a little more but they are worth it trust me

On my Grand Prix it's making the humming noise but when I jack it up it only moves left to right and up and down it seems fine. Would that still be a wheel bearing?
@Tomsfoolery.4 жыл бұрын
Yes. They’ll usually start to make noise prior to becoming loose.
@EzMDr2 жыл бұрын
What brand of wheel bearing hub would you recommend?
@Tomsfoolery.2 жыл бұрын
Most of my customers choose MOOG for their 3 year warranty. Napa also sells one with a 3 year. Honestly, I’ve found they don’t last any longer than the cheap ones. I’ve actually had Detroit axle bearings outlast MOOG on my wife’s Impala. So I guess my answer is, either buy what you can afford, or get one with a 3 year warranty so you can get a free replacement in just over a year when it fails.

I watched your video and got the bearing replaced but now the TC light and abs light is on. It was not on before i replaced the bearing. Any thoughts?
@jasonvoorhees85456 жыл бұрын
Either the parts are junk or the problem is in the wiring harness. Check the harness and then get it scanned. Did you clear the codes after replacing ? I've had 3 of these cars, 2 needed hub replacements.

This is very helpful with learning the procedure. However, I have an 06 GP GXP and the shim bolts on it are 16mm-5/8. The spindle nut on mine is 33mm, not 34mm. Also, the brakes are stock "high performance" brakes and there is no gap on the caliper to allow you to pry open the pistons. Not an easy task getting the caliper off the rotor. Otherwise, everything seems to be the same.

How important is the axle nut torque? I have no way to check that and I’m doing this in the morning
@Tomsfoolery.6 жыл бұрын
Axle nut torque is VERY important! Incorrect torque could result in premature wheel bearing failure.

Do rear wheels have them?
@Tomsfoolery.5 жыл бұрын
On front wheel drive cars, yes. Rear wheel drive vehicles with a solid axle also have a bearing but they’re pressed into the axle tube.

man I just bought one of these gtps. the guy had the bearings in the trunk so I just got done changing both sides. and the bad and traction control light is still on? I guess the ebay ones he had are junk.
@Tomsfoolery.6 жыл бұрын
Do you have access to a scan tool? If you can, see what the cause of the light is by reading codes or live data. It's possible there could be an issue on the vehicle side wiring harness near one of the front sensors. I've experienced it twice on GP's.
@marcoscano2407 жыл бұрын
Was this done because of a speed wobble
@Tomsfoolery.7 жыл бұрын
It was done because the hub assembly was humming at highway speed as well as the ABS light and Traction Control lights were illuminated due to the sensor failing.
@aztec1tec9877 жыл бұрын
+ts6034 ......Question...do the 3@ 13 mm bolts that hold the hub, do those need to be torqued also,?
@Tomsfoolery.7 жыл бұрын
I believe the torque spec on the three mounting bolts is around 118lb ft. But that torque isn't as critical as the axle nut.
@aztec1tec9877 жыл бұрын
