From Japan, I think this video is more marvelous than any other video about 2006 NLCS Game7.

Years past SportsCenter’s heyday, such as it was, but the presentation, the quips, the music here are all terrific. “Paging Uncle Charlie.” Perfect

I remembered that when Beltran struck out and Mets lost that brutal game 7, I remembered just turning off the TV, going to sleep, and then avoiding ESPN, avoiding any newspaper, avoiding any local media, and avoiding any other sports website for like a month. It wasnt until mid-November, when I got back to sports in watching the NFL, that I finally knew who won the World Series between Cardinals-Tigers. But what surprised me the most was that the Mets wouldnt make the postseason again in a decade when they finally made it in the 2015 postseason. I really thought that the Mets, with this core, were gonna be in the postseason many times for the rest of the 2000’s decade, especially with the opening of a new stadium in 2009. Little did I know about all the regular seasons heartbreaks in 2007 and 2008, and the regular season frustrations that awaited Mets fans from 2009 and forward.

I cannot believe that this Mets offense got shut-down twice against Jeff Suppan in this NLCS. Mets offense in this NLCS made Jeff Suppan look like Greg Maddux. Suppan in Game 3 = 8 shut-out-innings and he even hit a home run (Maddux was a great hitting pitcher as well) Suppan in Game 7 = Over 7 innings, one run (A blooper RBI hit by David Wright)

That Endy Chavez catch is the greatest home run snatching catch by a left fielder in MLB history, and the fact that it was also a game 7, and it turned into a doubleplay made it even better. Just imagine if this was game 7 of a World Series game. Best by a centerfielder is either Gary Matthews Jr of the Rangers during the 2006 regular season, or Jim Edmonds during game 7 of the 2004 NLCS. Best by a rightfielder is Travis Snider of the Pirates during the 2013 season at Citi Field.

6:48 If Endy Chavez had hit a grand slam in that position, Mets would have build a statue for him, especially after he made that catch in the top of the 6th inning

Isn’t there a statue of him making the catch in City Field?

Ronnie Belliard with the safety/suicide bunt-squeeze in game 7 to tie the game in the second inning; the Cardinals did A LOT of safety/suicide bunt-squeezes in 2005 and 2006.

If there is one thing about the Mets and the postseason, and that is that when they get disqualified in the regular season or in the postseason, they do it in memorable heartbreaking fashion.

8:06 Huge discussion that occurred the next day in the radio show Mike and the Mad Dog, in that now with the Mets having runners on first and second and no outs and down by two runs, if the Mets should have sent Glavine to bunt. But instead, Randolph sends an injured Cliff Floyd to hopefully hit a home run for a dramatic ending. Floyd coulnt run at all nor put weight on his injured foot, so if he hit a ground ball, it could have been a game ending triple play. Floyd struck out looking on the Wainwright curveball

Cardinals are now 2-0 against Beltran in the NLCS, despite Beltran having amazing NLCS against them, both in 7 games, both with Suppan starting in game 7

Mets offense disappeared in 4 of the 7 games against the Cards, scoring zero to two runs. And those 4 games were started by Jeff Weaver and Jeff Suppan. Mets dominance in 2006 was because of both their offense and their bullpen, but sadly, their offense and their bullpen was what cost them this NLCS But the most unreal stat about this NLCS is that the Mets only had one triple (Jose Reyes), while the Cards had four triples (two of them by Spiezio).

So ironic seeing Brandon Looper on the 2006 Cardinals, after he was garbage for the Mets in 2005 Looper was also part of the 2003 Marlins. Looper actually started his career with the Cards

Billy Wagner ALMOST blew game 6, just like he blew game 2 (along with Guillermo Mota and John Maine). Wagner almost blew game 1 of the NLDS against the Dodgers. And because Wagner got hit around in game 6, like he got hit around in game 2, this is the reason why Wagner was not pitching in the top of the 9th inning in game 7 of a tie game while the Mets were playing at home (you send your closer to pitch the 9th inning of a tie game at home since there is no longer a save situation for the home team). Mets lost all confidence in Wagner by game 7.

Worst game 7 matchup for starting pitches in history in terms of ERA Suppan in 2006 = 4.12 ERA Oliver Perez in 2006 = 6.55 ERA Oliver even had a 3-13 record in 2006
