If the Mets win this series and then the WS, that catch is one of the greatest in baseball history. Unfortunately for Mets fans, it didn’t work out and its largely forgotten. The strikeout of Beltran is one of the nastiest pitches every, especially considering Beltran’s history against the cards. He used to torch us in the playoffs as part of the astros killer B’s. I first started watching baseball after a trip to New York in 2006. I’m from England, so I didn’t know a thing about the game. I remember going for a trip to Shea Stadium one day so I could cross it off my list. The Mets were playing the Florida Marlins and as I stood outside the stadium taking photos, I got chatting to a local who kindly walked me through the basic rules of the game. Seemed fine. It was a game I was never interested in, but it was nice to chat with a New York native. I arrived back in England, which is five hours ahead of New York, and slipped back into my normal routine of chronic insomnia. I rarely slept more than an hour, so much of the nighttime was spent drowsily flicking through the TV channels. I had no idea they showed MLB on British television. Two shows a week, showing a live game on Wednesday and Sunday. It was halfway through July 2006 and by the beginning of August I was completely obsessed with the game. I knew all the stats from that year and was eagerly looking forward to the postseason where my Mets team would annihilate all the other teams on the way to the World Series. The Dodgers were good, but not great. The Cardinals were pretty mediocre with just a few good players (and one god). But the Mets had Reyes, Wright, Delgado, Glavin, Wagner and, the best of the bunch, Carlos Beltran. Detroit had collapsed in the second half of 2006, so I was pretty confident we’d beat them after we saw off the Cards. Well, I didn’t get to watch Game 7 against St. Louis because it wasn’t on British TV, so I had to watch the score unfold on the internet. I never knew the details of the final AB. I found out a year later from a Yankees fan in a bar when I returned to New York to watch the Mets win four straight games in September (yes, they actually won four straight games against the Astros and Braves… and I was there to watch all of them) on their way to another certain postseason. But, the Mets are the Mets, didn’t yet have Yohan Santana, and the Phillies had Ryan Howard and Chase Utley amongst others and the rest is history. I’d love to see this 2022 Mets team go all the way. They’re a true team and they have one of the greatest pitchers to ever take the mound. I should’ve put tl;dr at the beginning, but if you came this far, you’re probably a Mets fan and you’re glad your crazy team has such a positive impact on a guy who lives 3,000 miles away.

Na that’s not what happened. After the bases were loaded yadi went out to talk adam about what to throw...They decided on a fast ball to start. im sorry yall lost to my 2 fav teams in the cards/royals. that 06 mets team was insane and if the mets wouldnt of choked in 15 the series would of went 6 or 7 and could of easily ended differently

I forgot about the stinker Glavine threw in Game 5 when the Mets gave him a 2-0 lead. He should receive equal blame to Beltran but of course that's not how these things work. We only remember the guy who blew it at the very end ala Buckner in 1986.

Being here now it's only 22 you guys picked up Max Scherzer who is hurt now you got Jacob degrom who is just now coming back he's all right but that's it will you win division or will you be a wild card will the Atlanta Braves get hot and when the division once again time will tell

Really... Mets fans are the most determined? This Mariner fan has never seen the world series... went 21 years between playoff appearances... and is still here.

That was Waino’s big entrance to the show, it’s sad it might be coming to an end this year. What a pitcher Wainwright has been and what an adversary and Cardinals killer Beltran was. Beltran had maybe the greatest single series performance by a player in the 2004 NLCS against the Cardinals. He was totally unstoppable in that series, it’s a shame it got overshadowed and deservedly so by the Red Sox ALCS series that same year, but what a time to be a baseball fan though.

The Cardinals weren't that great in the 2006 regular season but got hot in the postseason..The pitch didn't necessarily doom the Mets..The Mets were decent in 07 and 08..The NY Mets were positioned to win the NL East in 2007 and 2008 before September started but blew it, collapsed, and didn't make the Playoffs in 07 or 08 ⁉📚🌇💺🏙🎫Shea Stadium for the NY Mets saw a lot of baseball excitement for the 2006, 2007, and 2008 seasons..Mets made NLCS in 2006 but collapsed in Septembers of 07 and 08..Shea Stadiums was torn down after 2008 season..

This dude is clearly too young to understand being a Mets fan. It actually began right after they won the 86 World Series. 1987, they were supposed to be better and everyone got hurt, 88 they lost to Mike Sciosia and the Dodgers when they were the best team in the league. Trend continued with horrifically bad teams, Strawberry leaving and Generation K becoming a failure in the mid 90s. Then falling short of the postseason in 97 and 98 when they only had to win 1 game. Battles with the Braves in 1999, losing to the Yankees in the 2000 World Series,a deal for ARod falling apart, Griffey nixing a trade to the Mets, underachieving in 2001. Art Howe being a failure along with Robby Alomar and Mo Vaughn.

Well ok that’s may be true but the Mets were on fire up until that point I made in the video - also being young doesn’t make me any less of a Mets fan

You wanna talk about pissing away victory. Nothing.....and I mean nothing beats the Rangers 2011 World Series loss to the Cardinals. They were 1 strike away from winning. Twice.......and Nelson Cruz forgets how to catch.

Especially cuz it's Yadi's and Albert's last year, last run and the Cards are playings like world beaters right now and look dangerously scary atm(diehard Cubs fan btw, so I got no dog in the hunt come playoff time). It's gonna be a gauntlet getting thru the NL playoffs for whichever team survives to capture the National League Pennant. I mean out of Dodgers, Mets, Cards, and Braves I could easily see anyone of those 4 teams represent the NL in the World Series, cuz they're all really f**king good and set up to make a run.
