The 2004 Cardinals finish with 105 regular-season wins, reach the World Series....and are swept in 4 straight. The 2006 Cardinals finish with 83 regular-season wins, reach the World Series.....and WIN in 5 games. Baseball, Ladies & Gentleman. 😉

Being a Cardinals fan living in Tigers country made the World Series title extra special. Having the bragging rights was quite lovely for then-14 year old me.

As everyone well knows, the 2002 MLB strike was averted hours before it would take place on August 30. On the afternoon of Game 3 of the 2006 World Series, two months before the CBA expired, a new CBA was reached on a five-year pact that runs through the 2011 season. How things have changed from the fatal strike of 1994 and the near-Strike in 2002.

Last World Series appearance for Tigers until 2012.

A gem by Carpenter in game 3 = 8 innings, no runs, on just 82 pitches. He left the game due to the hand injury, so he could have completed the game.

As of the end of the 2023 season, only 3 teams in MLB history have won the World Series on their first season in their new stadium - 1912 Boston Red Sox (Fenway Park first season) - 2006 St. Louis Cardinals (Busch Stadium 3 first season) - 2009 New York Yankees (Yankee Stadium 3 first season)

Actually 4 because the Yankees won in 1923 when they opened the old Yankee Stadium

Both of La Russas World Series winners 2006 and 2011 were arguably 2 of his lesser talented teams. The 06 was dreadful after the all star break. Those teams just knew how to win in October. What a run by Albert Yadi and Waino

To put these Tigers’ errors in perspective: The White Sox and Astros had 5 WS errors COMBINED last October

Tigers pitchers defense was horrendous in this WS, with the Tigers pitchers committing one error in each of the 5 games. And Tigers thirdbasemen Brandon Inge also had 3 errors in this WS. ITS UNREAL Game 1 = 3 errors, one of those to pitcher Justin Verlander, and the two others to thirdbasemen Brandon Inge. Game 2 = 1 error, to pitcher Todd Jones Game 3 = 1 error, to pitcher Joel Zumaya Game 4 = 1 error, to pitcher Fernando Rodney Game 5 = 2 errors, one again to pitcher Justin Verlander, and another one to thirdbasemen Inge. And two of those five errors by the Tigers pitchers were to them throwing to third base to get the force-out. WOW And the Tigers even had 5 wild pitches in this World Series. FYI, a wild pitch is not considered an error.

Tony LaRussa joins Sparky Anderson as the only managers in MLB history to win a World Series in both the American League and the National League. I guess if Jim Leyland had won this 2006 World Series or the 2012 World Series, he would have joined this list as well. Bruce Bochy will join this list later in his career (Giants, Rangers). This is as of the end of the 2023 season.

Tony LaRussa joins the following list of managers to win a ring with different teams: Bucky Harris = Washington Senators (1924) and Yankees (1947) Bill McKechnie = Pirates (1925) and Reds (1940) Sparky Anderson = Reds (1975 and 1976) and Tigers (1984) Tony LaRussa = Athletics (1989) and Cardinals (2006). LaRussa will win another ring with the Cardinals in 2011. Bruche Bochy will also join this list later on in his career = Giants (2010, 2012, 2014) and Rangers (2023) This is as of the end of the 2023 season.

The Cardinals become the team with the lowest amount of wins to win the World Series = 83 wins The previous record was 85 wins, done by the 1987 Twins, who ironically beat the Cards in the World Series The 1973 Mets ALMOST WON the World Series with 82 wins, but they lost in game 7 to the Athletics. This list is NOT counting any strike-shortened-season or any season that ended early due to a World War, and this is as of the end of the 2023 season.

The Cardinals won the World Series while having less than 90 wins. The following teams have won the World Series with less than 90 wins: - 1987 Twins (85) - 2000 Yankees (87) - 2006 Cardinals (83) - 2014 Giants (88) - 2021 Braves (88). Honorable mentions: - The 1973 Mets ALMOST won the 1973 World Series while having only 82 wins but they lost in game 7 to Oakland - The 1997 Indians ALMOST won the 1997 World Series with 86 wins but they lost game 7 to the Marlins. - As mentioned above, the 2014 Giants (88 wins) won the 2014 World Series. They won it in 7 games against the Royals, and the 2014 Royals themselves had less than 90 wins (89 wins). So that was a World Series of teams with less than 90 wins, which is the only time in MLB history that two teams with less than 90 wins have faced each other in the World Series, as of the end of the 2023 season. - Ironically, Jim Leyland 1997 Marlins faced the 1997 Indians that won 86 games in the World Series, and Jim Leyland 2006 Tigers faced against the 2006 Cardinals in the World Series that won 83 games. Every information above is as of the end of the 2023 season, AND this is not counting any strike-shortened-season nor a season that got shortened due to a World War.
