Disconnecting the wiring harness makes it a lot easier to get to the bolts on the inlet pipe. Removing the battery will give you extra room. It’s not strictly necessary, but it does make it easier. With those out of the way, I was able to get my fingers on all the bolts and wasn’t fumbling around blind. Dorman makes a metal coolant inlet pipe upgrade. It’s available on Amazon and not much more than the plastic one.

A couple questions, please… 1) 2:31 If the nut comes off with the stud like it did for you, can I just separate the nut from the stud AFTER I remove it and then put the stud back in? 2) Do you test your new thermostat in a pot of hot water BEFORE installing it? Thank you!
@PracticalMechanic10 ай бұрын
Good questions. 1. For the stud that came off, yes you could do that. What I did instead was I used a new 1/4-20 bolt instead because the stud itself looked somewhat corroded. 2. It shouldn't be necessary to test the new thermostat in a pot of water before installing it. But you can definitely do that if you want to double check the temperature specification of the thermostat!

Can someone tell me please, there is a screw on top of the harness for Sienna 2005, is there any electrical wire that goes there?

Hi, I’m having boiling coolant in the reservoir, i fill to the neck and fill the reservoir, drive around less than 10 miles and the reservoir tank is spilling out thru the reservoir and also boiling. I’ve change the coolant temp sensor (fans weren’t working only with ac) which took me a long time to figure out since the first CTS I bought was from autozone and didn’t work until I got Oem. I also replaced the thermostat but one from Napa. Would the thermostat cause my boiling? We did pressure block test, no fumes mixing I also changed water pump and resealed the water outlet

Thank you for the creat video. is your socket wrench 1/4 or 3/8 ? and do you have part number for the extension and magnetic 10/12 mm socket?

Thanks! I used a 3/8“ drive socket and extension, similar to this one: amzn.to/3w8lqnX Good luck, hope it helps!

i have a 2006 sienna and the weather is getting cold 17f now and the heat seems just warm and not hot coming out of ducts and temp gauge reads on the low side between hot and cold and am wondering if my thermostat is weak, any good way to check it? thanks @@PracticalMechanic

To check if the thermostat is stuck open (which we suspect in your case), start the car and (carefully) put you hand on the upper radiator hose. If coolant is running through it and it slowly gets warmer and warmer, your thermostat is stuck open. Proper operation is that the hose will stay relatively cool for about 5 minutes (or until the engine gets hot), then the thermostat will open and the hose will suddenly go from relatively cold to hot very quickly. Hope it helps, good luck. 👍
