I remember listening to this game (Game 4) on the radio on my way down to Texas to help setup a friends business who moved from where we are in Southern Illinois. I remember being concerned with being able to see / hear the game, because I had been waiting all year, following my team, the CARDINALS BABY! I knew this was their year after watching them grind EVERY game, I did miss one television broadcast, and went to a few games at Busch Stadium as well. I remember thinking "Great, Verlander and his serious fastball could destroy us", but it didn't! I remember also thinking that the crazy long wait the Tigers had for us to finish the NLDS / NLCS to get to the World Series played a role in how sloppy the Tigers seemed in the World series a few times. Great series to revisit indeed! Side Note: The NY Mets series before getting to the World Series was also unbelievable. I can't say the Cardinals were a "straight through" ticket to the World Series that year, but they sure did grind and take advantage of many mistakes from other ball clubs that year, serious butt pucker moments the whole way through!

Granderson really didn't do too bad by slipping and missing that catch. The pitcher shouldn't have thrown the ball away on the following bunt attempt. The real killer in this game was Monroe in left field. His misplaying the single that Scott Rolen hit allowed Rolen into scoring position, Molina immediately brought him home. Then Monroe misplayed the ball hit in the bottom of the eighth. These two misplays led to 2 runs being scored.

This should be called the David Eckstein game

Rolen should have been the World Series MVP. I like Eckstein, but he had two good games. Rolen was more consistent and had more impact.

Something else I found ironic about the 2006 season was the fact that the 2004 and 2005 teams were much better than the 2006 edition, but the 2006 team is the one that won the Championship. I believe the 2004 team was the best Cardinal team not to win a Championship. Their pitching wasn’t spectacular, but I would challenge anyone to name a better offensive bunch. 1 through 8, the only easy out was Matheny. The rest could do serious damage. Anytime Reggie Sanders is your number 7 hitter, you have an amazing offense.

Not to mention Marquis, Woody, and even Morris could handle the bats too on the days they were going...

When I saw Granderson fall down, the first thing that came to mind was Flood. Karma is a wonderful thing, isn’t it?

It’s called being scripted. Mlb is the wwe. Things like this don’t just happen it’s too good it’s like a movie

Skank Hunt42 I have always considered this to be a World Series the Tigers lost, not a Series the Cardinals won.

@@DrunkenSlob take the tinfoil off your head and think a little more. It was well known the field had taken a beating from the rain, was very saturated, Granderson runs on his toes, and plenty of slipping and sliding going on in the outfield. Preston made a slippery catch in the game too and he scooted a good ways. Just because a team makes a mistake doesn't mean the whole MLB is "in on it" to help another team win.

Deiradinn Draven how ridiculous for that to happen in a World Series with the tigers and cards. It’s not even a stretch to think that it’s just blatantly obvious. This was obvious “revenge” for the 60’s meeting. What better way to have the cards win their first in 24 years than to get poetic justice for one of their past losses, to me they really over did it though with the amount of gifts that series

@@DrunkenSlob don't wanna argue. It wasn't scripted though, if you've ever payed the outfield after a heavy rain you'd know. Anyway, have a good one.
