Daaang that's cheap! My local place is $147/hr for labor. They want TWO THOUSAND for both sides. $830 just in parts. I'm thinking of doing it myself after watching this video.

@ValleyMobileAutomotive Question, I'm working on a 2016 Tahoe with stamped steel arms. The lower ball joint I'm trying to put in hits up against a lip inside the control arm. Any thoughts?

Great opportunity to just replace everything. Cv axle, hubs, struts, inner tie Rod ends, abs sensors, etc. This was the cheap option. But we all know the rest of those components don’t have much life left in them if they are over 10yrs old & the vehicle is over 100k miles. Just replace it all while you are at it & enjoy that new car ride again 😎👍

Mine still has all the stock stuff at 240,000 miles. Even the ball joints. Kinda funny I have people tell me how bad Chevy front ends are. Mine needs uppers now. But not bad longevity.

I have a 99 silverado 2500 just now doing ball joints, hub assemblies, struts, tie rod ends. Also first brake job done to this truck, rotors and calipers. I think parts made back then we're made a tad different.

Great tutorial! I've changed everything on the front end of my 06 Tahoe except the lower ball joints and idler/pitman arms. Two shops said everything else was fine. Went to a different shop as highway stability wasn't great (needs more caster than current), but this current shop (much closer to home) showed me the idler arm looks terrible as does the pitman. Luckily I've only put about 700 miles on my new tires. So until I get some sun and a little warmth the car just sits (few weeks now) until I can do the idler/pitman arms. Too many issues as per reviews with Moog pitman arms, so I bought GM Genuine parts for this job. Wish you were closer as I'd trust you to do it, but alas, I'm on my own for this. Never seen you work out in the dirt before. Is this your personal vehicle? Thanks again for a great video!

an there a reason they quote that high , most of the time those upper control arm bolts are seized in the control arm an arm has to be cut out, it took me 5hr a side to get mine out with a Sawzall an angle grinder
@ValleyMobileAutomotive
@ValleyMobileAutomotive 6 ай бұрын
@@dablack12 I can see that being an issue. These came out relatively easy but any more corrosion and it would have been a real struggle.

How do you know if the control arm,is steel or aluminum
@paulschwartz6916
@paulschwartz6916 5 ай бұрын
Not to be rude, but if you don’t know the difference between steel and aluminum, you probably shouldn’t try working on your vehicle! But aluminum is usually kinda a silver color, and it doesn’t rust. And it’s usually not painted. Also, a magnet won’t stick to aluminum.

@@omantoodle2437I don't know why people feel the need to be condescending. Feel your ball joint if it's domed it's aluminum. If it's flat it's steel. Mine were aluminum but someone painted them like you mentioned. Look at pics of the ball joints online you'll see the difference.

So does it just depend on the UCA on whether or not you can press out the ball joint and replace just the ball joint? I am shopping for UCA’s and some say they come with replacement ball joints…?
@ValleyMobileAutomotive
@ValleyMobileAutomotive 3 ай бұрын
@@tjborboa722 As far as I know the ball joint on the factory upper control arms aren't replaceable by themselves. At least I haven't come across one yet. Maybe some aftermarket control arms allow for independent ball joint replacement.
