Joshua Blanchard - well then if you get the car not only is it a Monte Carlo which they no longer make but that it was your grandpa’s car. That makes it pretty special.

Btw the 98' monte carlo and the 98' lumina have the same 3200 series engines in them so if u get a monte carlo with a blown engine and a lumina of the same yeat with a heavily damaged body for free at a dump,then u could do a engine swap from the lumina over to the monte carlo,boom free car,and u can save the lumina for parts for the monte carlo,so boom boom! Free car and free replacement parts even from the blown monte carlo engine too

I can say I'm the proud owner of one, burgandy in color though; get my license back in November of this year, first thing I'm gonna' do is take the beast out for a walk, then a run...a long run...gotta' admit these are some of the sickest lookin' cars, meaty, beefy, big and bouncy, full stop!

I own a 06 Monte SS in Red. Purchased in 2015 with 30k miles. Now at 59k. I have a custom Diablew Tune, which among other things deactivates the DOD. Because I got rid of the DOD so early, the engine uses no oil. The upgraded FE4 suspension can be a bit stiff if you drive on bad roads but otherwise keeps the big boat sturdy. They only made 14k of the 06-07 Monte SS, so they can be hard to find. If you want one, you gotta be patient. I waited 2 years to find the perfect Laser Blue but settled for red because who wouldnt want 30k miles on the odometer lol. Without DOD my MPG did not suffer at all. The DOD system was designed mainly for better EMISSIONS rather than fuel economy. When the car is in 4cyl mode, the injectors that are on are spraying twice as much fuel. So there is no real positive for the DOD other than the PR people at GM saying its a good thing.
@MrMcSwifty
@MrMcSwifty 7 жыл бұрын
Exactly right about the AFM/DOD. I suffered through that nonsense for far too long before I disabled it and lost 0mpg city and maybe 3 mpg highway. Whatever a money I may have saved on gas was spent tenfold on fouled plugs, lifters, and oil. What a joke.

Nice vid. If you still have this car put some AT-502 in that motor. One or two ounces per oil change will do. No more oil smoke. No more missing oil between changes. The way it works is nothing short of incredible.

I've had an 03 SS with 180k miles and now currently have an 06 3.9L V6 LT that I bought in 2017 with 61k miles. One thing you forgot when talking about interior quality was that annoying part of the dash where it meets the glove box(right above the closest vent in the silver panel). It pops up and exposes the insulation on EVERY car. Its showing in yours too.

I've never heard anything about these vehicles burning oil cause of the cylinder deactivation my 2013 Silverado with the same motor never used that much oil and also my my cylinder deactivation hardly ever kicked on due to the fact that where I live here in Texas the hwy speeds are 75 mph I was told when I bought my Silverado your only gonna get good use of the cylinder deactivation when you drive it at 60 to 65 mph but who wants to drive that much slower that the speed limit but as of now I'm actually in the market for one of these cars so I guess I'm gonna have to go to the dealership and ask about these Monte Carlos burning up that much oil overall very informative videos

I've owned mine for about a year now. Love the thing. Parts are not hard to find for this car for anyone wondering. Most people don't realize that this is almost exactly the same as the Chevy Impala made during the same year. The Pontiac Grand Prix, Chevrolet Impala, and Buick Lacrosse came from the factory with this same engine. I'm at 120K miles, and my transmission is just fine. It all depends on how much you beat on the car and take care of it. This car is quick for what it is. About the same as a stock WRX. I've beat, and been beaten by several cars. Usually anything modified has a chance at keeping up with this. Love having a V8 again.

Mine has about 112k on it now and these motors will go for a lot longer than that. As for the dash pad I've heard that it's caused from the sun beating down on it and warping the plastic. It's really hard to find a new part since they don't really make them anymore. I went to a Chevy dealer to try and order one and they told me they could not get it. I thought about trying to find one at a junk yard but it's not an extremely durable plastic so you it may bend by the time you take it off of the old car and put it on yours. Hope this helps and good luck finding a Monte they are great cars!

#1 Fix for oil Burning is flush intake and replace oil pan gasket with one that defects oil back down in pan: will not stop burning oil until oil rings are successfully flushed or motor is re-ringed. I got mine done and use no oil......#2 that is not the stock radio Which after make model is it? (am looking for a plug and play replacement myself)#3 needs a decent cargo net in trunk(it is very flat and stuff slides around ALOT).#4 I use Nokians on my and it drives like on rails in all weather.#5 When battery starts getting Weak they start Having some really freaky Electrical probs, When in doubt swap the battery out.#6 Messages are not prioritized correctly (it will constantly tell you that wiper fluid is low while not telling you that you have an alternator fault, And the engine light comes on when your gas cap needs tightened(instead of just telling you)) + a lot more things non-critical faults it could tell you are wrong but instead it pings the ENG light and makes you go have it checked #7 Tire monitoring system sucks(sensors get weak and if car does not hear a chirp from each tire every 18minutes it displays a fault #8I get 22-24 MPG with pretty standard weight foot. #9 Frame and body panels pretty wimpy make sure tire/body/oil shop knows where and how to lift these or they will start PoPing your side skirts and tweaking your (aluminum) sub frame.

I haven't heard of anyone trying that but let me know of it helps. One trick I learned is of you are in traffic try putting the car in 3rd gear. it will stop the car from entering 4 cylinder mode which is the main cause of the oil consumption. I am going to eventually get a Diablo Trinity tuner that will allow me to deactivate the cylinder deactivation.

These are so hard to find. I have. 2006 LT and it has a "engine power reduced" problem my grandpa looked at it and said it has to do with the computer or wiring. It's not gonna be cheap to fix so I've been looking to sell it and get an SS either an 06 or 07, but damn these are hard to find near me. Always either FL, or CA. Either that or extremely over priced.

I had a 2003 base model (180 hp) and the 07 Monte SS. I had transmission problems with both (at 75K miles in the 03 and 90K in the SS) along with the torque clutch converters going out on both. What is bad is that they pretty much put the same transmission in all the Montes of the aughts. I had the oil useage problems also in the SS toward the end of the time I had it. I loved the power, acceleration, and handling of the SS and I do miss it... but the transmission problems on both cars (along with Buick importing the Envision from China) will keep me from buying GM's for awhile.

I Have a S10 twice, nvr had any problems with GM and NAPA. If you had a automatic, then that is the problem mostly from hard driving. Autos are always gonna need to be met on its intervals from hard driving. You should stick to manual transmissions or semi-clutches. You don't have to worry about torque converters, stuff like that, its Bullet proof. Hell I don't even have a steering box in my project S10 with a LT1 V8 and it handles great. Also removing the steering box frees up a lot of hp. I noticed when I took it off. Steering pump, pulley and box. Lot of weight too. Shorter belt, gonna making it wider, with longer pulleys ect. Soon I will have a turn key 350HO, and a LSX later in my car life lol.
@MilsurpMikeChannel

Ace Tech Transmissions were a notorious weak spot on the aughts Montes (and as I said, they put the same one on pretty much all of them). My father-in-law also had a 2003 Impala... he never drives over 65 mph or accelerates hard, and his went out at 120K miles. Right now I have a 2012 Dodge Ram crew cab truck I love, a 2015 Dodge Dart (with the bigger, 2.4L engine and manual transmission) I traded the Monte SS in on (partly because of the problems I needed to fix on the Monte, and the fact that I have a 50 mile one way commute to work so I wanted something better on gas), and my wife has a 2012 Malibu which I will probably trade away when it hits over 100K in a couple years.

I would have loved a manual in the Monte, but alas, they only had one transmission for pretty much all Montes in the aughts. Torque steer is a bitch with this car since it has all that power in a front wheel drive and a manual might have exacerbated that.

Milsurp Mike Hmm, I see. My friend had a monte for a about 9k miles, it was used, had at least 130k+. He drove it really hard, and he is the guy I bought the LT1 from on his bonnie or his caddy idk which, but he drove that hard too. Had to completely rebuild the motor, bored it bigger, ect. He drove so hard againts it intervals Making his rocker spring not even touch both sides. The spring were warp to hell. And I run egg shell springs instead. This is the main thing about those arms and them heads on the LT1. They get really hot due to those crappy springs, causing bad timing. That motor came from a auto to my manual. Love it to death.

Man, if they shortened the length by 3 inches, and widened it 2 inches, added magnetic ride, an optional 6.2/w either a 6speed stick or 6 speed BEEFY AUTO and either AWD or electric locking rear diff... YES the price would go up, no doubt. But it would uphold the life of another tried n true badge that chevy has had for decades.

My 2013, LTZ will do 0 to 60 in 5.8 sec. Not bad for a 305 hp, 214 CID V6. Gets 32 mpg.

+631CarReviews I was considering doing one are the other to my 07 monte carlo ss, how ever considering emissions, gas ect... Do you perfer it with out the AFM I no it probably burns alot of gas, but the response and power you get out of It now has to be be alot better. Love the videos keep up the good job man loom forward to seeing some more on your monte carlo.

+Vanessa Renee I do prefer it without the active fuel management and my gas milage pretty much stayed the same. One big thing I noticed was the oil consumption went down a lot. Thanks for the positive feedback!

In both 2006 and 2007 the LS has a 3.5 liter v6 that gets 21 city 31 highway and has 211hp. If you wanted an LT however you could get a 3.9 v6 with 242hp but only if you got an 06, the 07 only has one V6 engine option. I don't know about the reliability but I would assume they are pretty good. I know the 3800 series v6 in the 2000-2005 montes is a good motor you can get in an LS trim.

So I were going to ask for a person such as myself being 6 feet, how is the roominess and comfort level. And by me being 6 feet would a person riding in the back be able to fit comfortable. I like the Monte Carlo because I have heard that the interior for this coupé is rather roomy
@631carreviews7
@631carreviews7 8 жыл бұрын
I'm 5 foot 9 and I've never had a complaint about the rear legroom. The bottom of the seat goes up and down so the headroom is pretty good as well. The seats are comfortable but lacking the side support I would like. But the back seat and trunk space is plentiful. The back seats fold flat and I've had 2 pairs of skis, 2 suitcases, ski boots , poles, and blankets in the back and it fit with a little room to spare. Overall it's a very comfortable and roomy interior.

If you are looking for a car where a 6' person could be comfortable sitting behind a 6' person, check into the Pontiac G8 GT. Although not cramped, the Monte does have backseat limitations because of the two door. I am 6'1 and my only complaint in my SS was there wasn't much space between my head and the roof... but it was a damn comfortable car to drive and I rarely ever had anyone ride in the backseat.

I have over 168,000 miles on my GXP same engine (LS4). Uses about a qt. of oil every 2-3k miles other than that it's smoother and quieter than same brand new motors out there, i.e. 2.0T. Quieter till you give it the beans that is. :)
