How many miles are on this vehicle? That determines more than anything if it's worth the repair I've got a GMC ENVOY that has a rear main seal leak It has 135,000 miles on it Any used car with 100,000 /130 000 on it are going for between 15k & 25k depending on the type of SUV So to me $4,000 is better than $300 to $400 a month for the next 60 to 72 months Tnis young man isn't afraid of hard work either That's impressive

I Have done three transmissions not all mine it’s big job to get to that rear main seal every time I gotta do this I watch videos after work to get freshened up make sure I got everything I put red loctight on all the transmission and transfer case bolts cuz they are hard to get to and sometimes wobbles make it harder to get tight I’ve never took off that front cross member used two wobbles and extensions from the back of the transmission the rear main seal bolts get a blue loctight on them too huge job tho costs a lot to have a Mecanic do it and I’d charge a lot too don’t blame them if u can’t afford it u gotta do it yourself
@steadyeddie74535 жыл бұрын
TIGHTENING SEQUENCE- When you slip the plate back on with the new seal installed the seal will center itself on the crank boss. Very important that it stays centered. I would tighten and torque all the outer bolts to keep the seal centered. Then install and torque the 2 lower bolts. If the outer bolts aren't completely tightened first the 2 lower pan bolts will pull the plate down ever so slightly and the seal will be off center with the crank. It may not fail right away, but it will at some point. I do appreciate that you didn't use the expensive centering tool. Its not necessary if you tighten the bolts in the proper sequence. Also my gripe is that GM could have installed a locating pin on each side of the block with matching holes in the plate to line things up. Just like they did with the older V8 timing covers. Thanks for the vid.

Wrong! Read the manual bud
@steadyeddie74534 жыл бұрын
@@TheCBD35 You actually did it as I described. Tighten the cover bolts, then tighten the 2 pan bolts. Then you came back and tightened a couple upper bolts later, but the cover was already locked down in place by that point, so you were good to go at that point.

Hey I love your videos!!! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!!!! Around the 10:00 minute mark, after removing the "engine support" you mention "that will give you room to lower the engine enough to get the last bolt out" that is up top. What actions do you take/how do you mean specifically "lower the engine"? to get to that last bolt. I'm getting ready to change my rear main seal and oil pan gasket in a 2007 Yukon Xl 1500 4wd version. I changed all the lifters/rods, and head gasket,valve cover gaskets, exhaust manifold gaskets and engine mounts 50k miles ago. Was running great until recently. Just getting my courage up. I appreciate any advice you can share. Thanks!!!!

Support it with your transmission stand while removing the cross member and then let the stand down once removed.
@ruslankontsimal7072 Жыл бұрын
@@davidmadl4596 so the mounts don’t have to be touched I’m guessing- just support the bottom of the transmission pan, remove the four big bolts/nuts for that engine crossmember, then lower the transmission jack, and the engine will lower as well and the engine mounts shouldn’t interfere, is that correct? I was hoping to not have to remove the transfer case and just slide the trans back like 6-8in, but I’m guessing because of the topmost bolt, I might just have to remove the transfer case huh?

What’s the torque specs for the bolts for that cover plate?
@ajautomotiverepairandfleet86145 жыл бұрын
The torque is 22 lb. ft. If your torque wrench does not go that low then I would recommend getting an inch pounds torque wrench or something that measures in N.m. The N.m spec is 30. If you don't have access to either then I kinda use my wrist as a torque to yield wrench to get them all close. Haven't had any problems doing it this way as well. Good luck with your project and let me know If you have any other questions or request. Peace

@ A & j Automotive repair and fleet services. I just paid my mechanic to do this job on the exact same year, make and model. I’m still getting a leak that is now worse than before. One drip every 40 seconds on a cold parked engine. He said that unfortunately the crank must be grooved where the seal sits and so the new seal isn’t working. Not sure I believe that to be the case. I’m not too happy to pay someone to make the problem worse. I’m hoping you can give me some suggestions on next steps to resolve the issue. Have you ever seen where a new seal doesn’t seal because the crank is too worn? The truck had 181,000 miles on it and is still running strong. Just an obnoxious leak that is making a mess. Please help.
