This 2007 Honda Civic LX has a starting problem. Let's take a look at it and fix it. Before we throw the old parts in the pile, we can take them apart just for more verification that we fixed the problem.

I always try to take apart what ever I had to replace (inquiring minds want to know) to make any changes to the new part BEFORE installing it. Glad to see you are also a parts coroner!!

This illustrates thee difference between diagnosing Japanese designed vehicles and German designed vehicles. Usually the Japanese designed vehicles will have a readily available and relatively inexpensive part fail. When diagnosing a German designed vehicle, one looks for the most expensive part that could possibly cause the problem that is only sold through the dealer and is on a several week back order to confirm a diagnosis.

Just one reservation. I admire your confidence in the replacement part but as a former service engineer and manager I would have tried starting before I put the cover on. In industry, it might have been an unnecessary superstition but I never put the test meter away before I tested the system. Keep up the good work.

3:29 20 yrs ago when I worked in a cabinet shop, for Christmas the boss gave us all tool totes with an assortment of tools we'd need when we did site installs. In it was a cheap little stamped steel ratchet with an assortment of screwdriver ends. It had a 1/4" socket. So you could put any 1/4" screwdriver hex torx or any length of bit. I still have the tote and that little ratchet. I use that ratchet easily 20 times a week. I use it all the time when working on my cnc machine. It's stubby so it fits in anywhere. It has a little knurled knob on the head so once you break something loose you can spin it out with the knob. Freaking thing is PRICELESS!!!! Edit: after pausing the vid, it's a lot like yours only smaller and cheaper. Not fancy chrome like yours!!!

Having several Accords, that sound is very familiar. Since I've had to deal with that issue on every accord over 10 years old. I've taken the ignition switch apart and put a drop of solder in the divot where the sparks from contact points. That will last a few months while I wait for the ignition switch shipped from China on Ebay.

Fortunately with the later cars the whole unit doesn't have to be replaced which means new keys as well. I think you showed us how to swap out the tumblers of the one-unit ignition switch so that the original keys can be used.

For some reason i knew it before you even stated changing the switch but the ones ive come across were old 1980s mitsibishi sigmas and all i did was use a screw driver to start the car or make my own switch box on the dash cause they were part cars or basher

Ya know my 08 makes that buzzing sound. I always thought it was the chime messing up... never had an issue starting. But I guess it won't be too much longer it might start causing that..guess I should order an ignition switch.

I forgot that I replaced that part on the 62k mile 2008 LX I bought 3 years ago, but now I remember. Same symptom. Know what's not fun to replace on these? The starter. Why did they make it so hard? And why did it die at 65k miles?
@danielbutler578
@danielbutler578 6 ай бұрын
I can only imagine. I had to pull the starter on my 91 Nissan Sentra, so I got out the repair manual to see how much of a hassle it was going to be. Fortunately, I took a few minutes to look it over before I began. I removed 4 bolts and the bracket that they were holding in place and saved myself a lot of unnecessary work. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the books tell me that I had to tear apart half of the car to do something that could be done much faster and simpler with the application of a little common sense.

Typically hybrid cars use a push button and the cranking is done by the motor-generator unit, so this is less than an issue.
