I want to see someone who crashes fully faired sport bike not do cafe style but make it like a regular old standard bike like in the early 80s, make it look like a old GPZ those bikes were cool looking but sporty but just a bikini fairing and a great looking tail with out the bobbed look. Loved the tail piece that flowed with the look and the bikini fairing to hid instruments a wiring mess. And a low clean front fender. Imagine if the retro thing kawasaki did with z900 if they did that with the GPZ series on the 250 400 650 ninja series. Nice looking bikes great zip for city and commuting and no fairing to replace if dropped or laid down at moderate speeds. Go look at early to mid 80s red GPZ now imagine that on the smaller ninja series for beginners would be cheaper lighter and usable bike that looks cool as hell

That would be pretty epic, I thought Kawasaki was going to do that to the 250 after honda went the neo retro style route and it seemed Kawasaki was going to do more 70-80s theme but will have to wait and see.

Ya it is from a 1978 Kawasaki KZ 750, I had to customize both the tank mounts on the ninja frame as well as the tanks under side (swapped the bottom of the tank with the stock ninja tank)

what 2-1 header is that?? I just pulled my 2007 out from the side of the shop pulled the tarp off and sprayed some ether in the airbox and it started on the first try believe it or not. 10 years of sitting under a tarp in the elements. I'm definitely getting this thing running. I spent 2 hours cleaning the nastyyyy carbs and replacing the JIS screws with stainless phillips now I need to decide what I'm going to do about the frame to get a new seat on it. probably bend some tubing and make a new rear end. but I definitely want to go 2-1 header. I've never liked the dual exhaust on this bike. I was sad after I was ran off the road on it but now I'm getting it back going. I have become a carb professional from working on my 2006 Triumph (practically the same carbs the Triumph just has bigger CVK's).
@mendingmotos
@mendingmotos 3 жыл бұрын
The header came from an 80's ninja 250. Yah I cut my teeth on an 1990 FRZ 400s carbs .... nightmare lol and glad to hear your getting back into the 2 wheel addiction!

I’m trying to build a cafe bike with a 96 ex250 and I’ve been trying to find a way to fit a different tank on there but the frame is really hard to work with. I love your solution to that problem! Did you use the bottom of the original tank and welded on a new top?
@mendingmotos
@mendingmotos Жыл бұрын
That’s exactly what I did lol but you also have to move the two metal tabs that are on the frame that are the supports for the bottom of the gas tank in order to reposition the gas tank for what ever top tank you choose. Good luck

@mendingmotos
@mendingmotos 3 жыл бұрын
The tank is a 1978 kz650 I found on Ebay. I had it customized to fit the ninja frame ( moved mounts on the frame, replaced the bottom of the new tank with the bottom of the stock tank so it would fit the ninjas tube frame and then cut out knee slots and put in a flush mount gas cap) but you can find other tanks to fit tubular frames.
