Thanks for showing how to remove the alternator. The whole point of me coming to KZbin and you completely skipped over actually removing it

Had to replace the alternator on my 07 Magentis (Canadian Optima). Found your vid. Followed your example and it worked great. Thanks a lot.

Perfect and I'm glad I could help!

Nice Vid, thanks. The alternators appear to be a weak point, at least with me as I change them out about once every 3 years. It is a pain as room is tight. It's best to replace the serpentine belt at the same time and the belt tension every other alternator swap. I think that idler pulley is left hand threads if I recall. Anyhow, I'm about to do it again so I come on youtube to remind me what a pain it is as I have my morning coffee...lol. Thanks...lol.

You're welcome. Yes it is very much so. I replaced the belt a month or so before I did the alternator, hoping it would solve the issue lol. Have a great day.

@@killrspeed00 The bottom bolt for the alternator just needs to be loosened and the alternator can be pulled up. On mine the casting is slotted where that bolt goes. Also for future reference, the idler pulley is standard right hand thread which doesn't make sense given the direction of the belt.

When I did my alternator in my 2008 Kia Rondo with the 2.7l I did the same thing with the idler pulley. Turns out on mine there was a cradle at the bottom bolt so didn't have to remove the pulley at all if I had known. Live and learn. Replacing it again right now after just 2 years. Got it at Conquest so has a lifetime warranty so won't cost any $$$ just skinned knuckles. Pain though.

Thanks for the feedback and yes it's a pain for sure.

Hi, I just saw your comment. I also have a 2008 KIA RONDO 2.7L EX that I believe is the Alternator issue and needs to be replaced as I just replaced battery a year ago. How difficult is it to get the alternator out and replace it. Do you remove the bottom bolt from the underside of the car? Do you remove the bottom bolt, upper bolt and voltage regulator plug. Anything else that needs to be removed from the alternator? What parts do you need to remove to have room to work? Sorry for all the questions. I once replaced the alternator on my 2004 Pontiac Vibe in a grocers parking lot 10 years ago with success. Just wondering how many bolts and whatnot needs to be removed from the alternator for it to come out? Any help and any surprises I would encounter?

@@heyoou have done 2 Rondos now both 2.7l. Not that hard but you must take out the fan assembly first to give enough room to gently wiggle the old alternator up and the new one down. Just enough room but be careful not to rub too much on the rad. The bottom alternator bolt is in a cradle so just loosen a bit, take out the top one and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. It will come out. The wire and such just transfers over. Unhook your battery before starting. I found I had to replace my starter as well and that's not hard either just not much room and has to be done under the car. Putting the wires back on can be a pain but they eventually go with a hook and gentle pulling. Good luck.

@@JeffWinter1 wow, thx for the quick reply. So the bottom bolt can be removed from the top (no jacking up the car?). Is the cradle for bottom bolt part of the alternator or does it just help hold the alternator? So 2 bolts and plug for the voltage regulator is all that needs to be removed as well as belt loosened? Thx Jeff.

@@heyoou the bottom of the alternator just has a u channel so loosening the bottom bolt is all that's required. I think there's a little heat shield that uses 10mm small bolts to protect the plug but it's pretty easy. It's the gentle, and patient, wiggling that's the key. If you're unsure go to a parts store and look at one to view the bottom bolt u channel. If you try and take the bottom bolt out you will have to remove the idler pulley which isn't necessary. Cheers.

Hey, do you happen to have the diagram for the serpentine belt? I can find the one for the 2.4 but not the 2.7

Two bolt what ever holding it on ?
@killrspeed004 жыл бұрын
Yes two bolts, and a bunch of other little shit. Also the bracket that holds it is really tight and hard to get the alternator to slide out.
