A co-worker and good friend just bought a 2007 Mazda 3 with under 100k miles. It's a beauty. Since the late 70's my wife and I have always "bought new" even though it costs more, buying new has advantages IF you maintain the vehicle and keep it about 10 years. I have seen good things over the last 40 years from Mazda. To me, they equal Toyota and Honda but for some reason the Mazda folks can't match the numbers sold. My buddy's Mazda 3 is great and he is very happy with it. When looking at Hondas, Toyotas and Nissans don't forget to take a look at Mazda. My experience is that they match their rivals and beat them in price if buying used. Just my 2 cents...

10 years after this video! I bought a 2008 gs 2.0l 3 sedan in 2011. I still have it and the engine still runs like the first day. It was a rusty model but 08 and 09 were the great years because Mazda changed their paint or steel supplier so check for these years. 200k kilometers last week. I’m about to change suspension all over the car and brakes, front tabs last year. Hope to put another 100k kilometers in the next years. Great buy

Bought a new 2007 mazda 3i with the 2.0L engine. Has 265k now. No major repairs except A/C in 2018. Our 5 speed manual is pretty darn quick. I've heard the auto trans is sluggish on acceleration. Kick ass sound system for stock set up! More road noise than usual if you dont rotate tires every 3-5k. Looks very sporty after we added the rear spoiler too. But, after a couple of deer/racoon strikes and the wife backing into mailboxes and such, she's starting to show her age. 10/10 would buy again.

I still love my 2008 Mazda3 S Sport like the day I bought it in 2010. I agree that the tranny likes to shift early and it is annoying when getting on the freeway but the slap shifter saves the day every time. It shifts faster than a manual and has some cool features like knowing to not drop to 1st gear in stop and go traffic after the first couple stops and goes but rather stay in 2nd so you can cruise in that gear and not have to make so many manual shifts. Also, you can put the gear selector into manual and bump it up to start out in 2nd gear from a stop when you are on snowy roads to help prevent wheel spin.

My 2004 3s is about to cross 100,000 miles and the only issue I've had in 6.5 years of ownership is the TPMS. By far the nicest car to be had under 20k when I bought it in '04. I'm still in love.

I got an '09 four door, five speed afew days ago and its awesome and I'm not just being a fanboy, these cars are smooth and lots of fun to drive if you like sporty rides. The suspension is alittle tight, but its worth it around corners! And its quite peppy! I am very happy with my purchase!

2007 Mazda 3 GX ( Mazda 3 i sedan in the states) I drive alot, I've gone 110 000 K in 1.5 years and not a complaint. My power steering cut out once last week but came back when I recycled the ignition, hasn't happened since. I am only not replacing my front brakepads, not only is it fun to drive but it takes a beating.

Going from that old Cavi, I'll bet you like it. I'm coming from a '91 Miata, and I still like my new 3. It's a blast to drive, and with the 2.3 and standard transmission, no problem with enough zoom. (But I wish I had a Speed3!) Wait, no, I still remember $4.00 gas...

that light is the tire pressure. I lovemy 07 Mazda 3 s. yeah it's only a 2.0 but it's got great handling, crisp light steering, great brakes, and an awesome manual. I've beaten v6 mustangs, 328i's, civics, scions, and eclipses with my 2.0. yeah I wish I had the 2.3 and some perf parts but this is pretty quick. lowering mine and putting exhaust and cai on it this year.

@toyota420xp Actually, no. If you research this topic, that rust is actually industrial/rail dust that sticks and rusts (it gets stuck during transport). A good cleaning, waxing and sealant application resolves this issue.

Relaxed road manners depends on tires. The Goodrich tires are not the best choice, use a type A tire like a Rotalla Korean tire and you'll get the relaxed road manners you need. I also installed a centric to the rear and mine is smooth and quiet. Merging is great, add synthetic oil and it hums pass any normal competitor. Of course it's not a speed3 but it gets up there. It's not a maintenance free Toyota, stay on top of it and learn as much as you can about the faults it has.

@tonytsui96 If you can deal with so-so resale value The Kia Forte would be a good choice. Think of it as a compromise between a Corolla and a 3. Sportier than the Corolla but not as sporty as a 3. It has a peppy engine. The Kia is more affordable to. No navigation, you can get everything bluetooth, leather, etc. for iunder 20 grand and a 10 yr 100,000 mile warranty doesn't hurt. If you butr all about performance go for the 3. The kia is more practical. But test drive both and see which you like
