2007 Pontiac G6 High Pressure power steering hose leaking

Somehow this hose got where it wasn't suppose to be, we change the high pressure hose that goes from the rack and pinion to the power steering pump.

The tip about removing that 18mm bolt was invaluable! There is no way I could have got any of this stuff done without that information. I was able to use a small flat tip screwdriver to remove both seals on the rack and pinion as the hose came with both. I'm not sold on the bolt pressing them in on reinstall, it looks like it sticks out a bit, but it didn't leak. I think pressing them in first would be best but that's almost not possible when laying underneath the car. Thank you for the video, it was much appreciated!

Did the black seal go on both the high and low pressure lines?

FYI - If you are doing a 2007 Saturn Aura XE 3.5 (Similar to G6) it's a 16mm nut at High Pressure Line to pump. I used 16mm flare wrench to break it free.

They fixed the design flaw for thermostat access by basically making the exhaust into a dual / y pipe, however now the power steering lines lay right on the exhaust... go figure

That was the geniuses from Pontiac. Ive had to replace mine 3 times. They also decided to not gove you the ability to check your own transmission fluid level. 🤦‍♀️

My g6 did the exact same failure but I thought it was caused by the flex pipe being broken

Beo I've been dealing with the same thing for 15 years now the dealers suck 1 they replaced my transmission 1 time and 3 days later my engine caught fire because they never mounted the pressure hose back in place exhaust burned a hole in it. 2 just happened they fixed my flex pipe on my exhaust but never mounted the steering hose back 😒 😤 now I have to fix this shytt again I knew I should have checked after I got the exhaust fix always check this pressure line

My daughter has a 09 g6. 4 times now the power steering line had to be replaced because of the exhaust burning it. Pos car.

Did you replace the other seal on the return line or just let it ride?

No I didn't replace those usually don't have issues very little pressure on those

Yes I also tied it down to the frame with industrial zip ties

This is the same problem my g6 has. Fixed it about 6 months ago but I guess they couldn't figure out how to keep it off the exhaust because the same thing happened again yesterday. I don't know why they designed these g6 with the lines running over the exhaust

Yeah it's a bad design, I always use the factory mounting and reinforce with heavy zip ties

I was wondering when u put the lines in the gear box. Did the flange sit flat against the gear box with the cup seal? Thanks

I usually try to hold the line very straight and thread it in I normally don't bottom out the flange first but I've been doing it for years and I have a feel for it.

No I put lid back on I usually check it a few times before I ship it out that should let any existing air out

My pressure line just did the same thing. Burned up under the exhaust.. I read that you held the new hose down with zip ties, Any other tips for preventing contact there?

It's a bad design there isnt much you can do other than tie it securely away from the exhaust

That's a good question as far as I know no one in the aftermarket has done anything different if I was real serious about it I would probably get some header wrap to put on the lines and make sure they are tied away as far as possible

Hooptie , can you add any heat reflection or insulation to the pressure line as well as wiring it to the frame ?

Did some figure it out for you yet? I replaced the hose but a month later it burned again. This time the shop cut hose where it was burned an put hose connector there lasted 2 years but now its doing it again.

@@retiredsnowbunnyhunterx5106 winded up using a metal zip tie on the hose to the frame and to the exhaust at the bottom. It kept it away from the exhaust at the top

How did you get the seal out? You say you used a pick but no matter what I do, I cannot get any leverage to get it out.

I was having the same issue. Spent probably 4 hrs scraping out all reminents of the seals. Had to use multiple picks with different angles and cut up some pieces of metal coat hanger and bent them into different shapes which I also used as picks. I read somewhere online that the proper way to do it is to get a bolt that just fits into the hole such that it can thread into the seal. Then pry out the bolt. I had already manged the seals so I didn't try this method.

@@ger260685 I could never remove the old seal. Not even sure if it was there in the first place. I ended up just installing the new one and tightening it down. No issues as of today.
