My parents had a 2008 Toyota Yaris hatchback with the automatic transmission. That car was supposedly meant for the middle east market as the side mirror's warnings were in Arabic. That car was basically indestructible. We jammed 6 people (albeit, small-built Southeast Asians) and about 6 small luggages into it and drove for nearly 2000kms of various terrain. It never gave us trouble during that trip or in fact any other trips. A testament to this car's reliability

As a car enthusiast I didn't like how it looked, and didn't like it's bland driving characteristics, but damn it was a good car. Zero mechanical issues, just a leak on the back window. It drove fine, was comfortable, hauled our stuff, and got good fuel mileage. For the average joe that wants to save a buck, its a fantastic option.

A full Toyota product at its best (because the later sedan for the U.S. is a Mazda 2) simple, reliable, durable, quite spacious and (imo) a very well made car for its class. 5 people on my street have one since new and all of them are still running strong to this day. At one point in time, this was even one of the most frequently stolen cars (so they tell me). These are just dead reliable, very easy to maintain, fuel efficient and mostly light on their feet because of the VVT-i engine that really likes aiming for the top of the rev range. I tested one with the 5spd and it was really a blast to drive... but the automatic somehow fared even better in these

Just found a manual Yaris. I was alarmingly surprised they wanted 5k for it. It is such a basic car, has 150k miles, and is slightly worn and they still want 5k for it. That isn't even just the one place- that seems like a price that many people are asking for. You can get an '05 Buick LaSabre for 4k with the same amount of miles. Heck, you can get a 2016 Buick with 60,000 miles for 7k with way more features. Sure... those are not the same reliability but still- 5k for a car with manual windows, mirrors, EVERYTHING seems crazy. Honestly... I like it- it is weird yet practical.

The Fit has better packagìng, the Yaris can go 500,000 miles and then a cheap JDM.motor can get you more. If you care more about saving in a 401K than nice stuff now, get a Yaris and leave the Silverado parked until you need to haul something

I swear automakers do everything they can to make small cars as much of a penalty box as possible. The design of this would have never gone far in North America. They need to start building small cars purpose built for the North American market rather than lazily bringing deisgns aimed at other markets. Toyota did this for decades with the Corolla. Idk why they made the Yaris so bad. These small cars are embarrassing. I drive a subcompact myself so I know what I'm talking about lol.
