Here's my account of living with my 2006 Tiger 1050. I've put 6000ish miles on it in about 3 months through cold and wet weather aswell as glorious sunshine. I've taken it around the British mainland on all different types or road. I've had it loaded up with 40kg of luggage too, so I now feel I'm well placed to give a well rounded account of my experience with it.
I also touch on Givi luggage for it and a few minor mods. I'll report back once I've put the new chain on and let you know how that affects the throttle response.
Oh, it's also one of the 2006 models, but I didn't want people to think it was an old style bike. Also sorry about the sound quality. There is no solution to sorting this out short of going everywhere at 30mph, and I aint doing that! :)
Feel free to ask any questions and when I notice them I'll be sure to answer them. :)
Update: So the new chain adjusted so it's not too loose (perhaps tighter than spec) helps a bit, but it's still really snatchy. There are some good tunes available (see IndyTiger at Tiger1050.com) to smooth it all out though, but I will live with it. Doesn't bother me. :)
Also recently been taking a pillion a lot and found the bike very capable with that setup too. Still loving it!

Well done mate, a proper review from a proper rider, exactly what these glorious machines are all about, riding experience not what is on paper....

I've had a Tiger1050 for 3 years & put 20K miles on it. We live in Utah and my wife and I use it to tour all over the western USA. I use an airhawk cushion, my wife has a gel pad. She says the Tiger's passenger seat is the most comfortable seat she's ever ridden. We've been riding together since 1974 on everything from a Bonneville to a Goldwing and that's good praise for the seat. I've done Los Angeles to Salt Lake City (700mi) in a day more than once, no problem. The motor is a total joy.

Well done ! Precisely what we need, an everyman's perspective, no some highly technical piece of work. I own a 2007 Triumph 1050 Tiger and out of the dozens of different bikes I've owned over the last 40 years, this is as close to the perfect bike for me as I've found. No moving couch (Goldwing) or sportbike (that leaves my wrists numb) for me...the all around can do nearly everything bike !

I know this vid is getting on a bit however I would like to thank Fallout for making this video as it was certainly a contributing factor for me to at least go out and try one. This led to me buying one in the end. No regrets! what an excellent all rounder!

Totally agree and some good praise there. I've been carrying a pillion a lot recently and it's been a pleasure. With the Givi luggage on she complains a bit about the foot pegs and not enough room, but I'd imagine that's less of an issue with the standard Triumph luggage. But without luggage we have a great time and it remains really nice to ride spiritedly even 2-up. The only other complaint is the rear shock could do with more preload. The lights are too high with a pillion and full preload.

I don't know how many times I've watched videos from Europe and I still can't get used to you guys riding on the left side!! Anyways...I have a 06 Sprint ST and buying a used 07 Tiger for commuting purposes from Santa Rosa, CA to San Jose, CA (about 105 miles). I hope the comfort is there. Also, we are allowed to lane split here, so the "thinner" bike should help me cut some traffic.

Thanks mate. Yes, I prefer watching these kind of reviews too. The reviews by companies and magazines are all well and good. They help you learn stats and give you more technical info about history/build/components etc. but really you want to know what a bike rides like for your average joe. Glad it's come across well! :)

Hi mate Great review. I bought my 2007 Tiger second hand and was concerned about the seat height(I'm a shortarse 5' 6")but the bike was fitted with Maxton suspension which is lower than standard so happy days! I noticed that at about 4k revs it tended to surge quite a bit so I fitted new chain and sprockets. This didn't make any difference so guess it's probably down to the fuel injection. Anyway you get used to it and it's not really an issue. It's still a fantastic bike and by far the best I've had.( And I've had more than a few)All in all I would endorse your review and recommend anyone thinking of buying to watch it.

I'm really interested in one of these tigers for longer trips, I'd love the tiger sport, this is the only vid I've seen where someone actually gives their tiger a real thrashing, good on you, also love the fact you happily admit to breaking the law speeding at 90mph, love it, lol. Not that I agree with that sort of behaviour.

Thanks for the vid, it convinced me to trade in my fjr1300AS and start having fun by purchasing a 2006 tiger in scorched yellow, with a tor, got it yesterday and love it, thanks again

Nice review. I was considering a Sprint GT but after watching your video of that bike I'm now thinking a Tiger would be better. Cheers!

I'm glad I found this video even though the wind noise made it a bit hard to follow. I got the message after watching it twice. I've been thinking of simplifying my current set up of 3 bikes into just 2. I currently have a drz 400 sm with the off road wheels as well so basically 2 bikes in 1 but I ain't thinking of getting rid of that its soo cheap to run it's not worth getting rid of and so much fun to ride but my other 2 bikes are a Yamaha fz1N and a Kawasaki Versys 650. I've had the Yamaha for 2 years now and love the power and handling its great fun on a fast bit of road and comfy-ish. I'm good for around 100 miles a day which is all I can get to a tank full. I can't do a full-on sports bike I just go way to quick everywhere. That's the beauty of the naked it's still fucking quick but try and ride it like a supersport and you get tired fast. So it's easier to relax and take it easy through all the slow stuff and just enjoy the ride. Then the Kawasaki I've only had for 8 months now but I'm loving the long range ability, long fuel range 200 miles easily and how easy it is to ride. It's so comfy and ideal for day to day use without putting a load of commuting miles on the Yamaha devaluing the bike. But I was thinking of chopping in the fz1n and the versys 650 for a bike that's comfy and easy to ride but still quick enough to replace the fz1 at the same time but after watching this I think I won't bother. Seen as the tiger isn't really super fast only being 115bhp at the crank whereas the fz1 is 147bhp at the crank and the little versys is 65bhp but is very torquey and will happy cruise at 70-80mph no problem and like you said the tiger isn't really any good in the really fast sweeping bends. Although I'm sure it's fine if that's all your used to ie a big heavy tall top heavy bike. I guess there ain't really a bike out there that can do all the things I want to do well. The tiger is a great all rounder but I'm not looking for that. Your quote at

Well done mate. Good buy! Still loving mine. Been riding with a pillion a lot recently. Would recommend 44 PSI in the rear tyre and preload set to max in the rear shock, and then it's a cracking pillion capable bike.

I like the review. I got my tiger 2010 model and just find it a great bike. I use it so much I have added a few extras. Change the exhuast to a blue flame. Sound awesome. I do touring, general ride, commuting. Even took it to the isle of man for the Tt with my wife. Brilliant. Its my third bike and any time I look to replace it I can't seem to find a bike that matches it. I lowered my bike with a simple kit of eBay that was a smaller set of triangle linkage for around £30. Worked a treat. Would definatly reccomend this bike to any one which does want an all rounder.
