I have an orange 2008 Tiger 1050 (non-ABS). Absolutely love it, use mostly for commuting and some light touring, 2-up curvy hill riding with my kid. Put 5k miles on it in my first year of ownership. Changed gearing to 42T rear sprocket (stock 44T) and 70mph is right at 4k RPM in 6th on the highway, before the buzzing gets annoying. Also saw a jump in fuel economy, getting about 48-49 mpg on 89/90 octane now. It's only about a 4-5% drop in RPM from stock from with the taller gearing, so not really any more difficult starts in first gear, and before it would read several MPH too fast at highway speeds, now it's only fast by 1 mph at 65 and above compared to GPS. If you notice choppy off-idle throttle response, go for a ride to get it up to temp, then leave it running on the side stand for 12 minutes. This is supposedly some sort of adaptation mode that re-adjusts the ECU and smooths things out. I read this and thought it was crap but tried it and it did actually improve my off-idle throttle. Have fun and stay safe!

The electrical system hasn’t been replaced in the bike I’m looking at, looking online at how much is would cost to fix but not seeing anything specific, any suggestions?

I have a 2007 (non-abs). Hands down best compromise touring bike you can buy. Sitting upright is super comfortable. I have side hard cases for trips to coast in the PNW. Only complaint is the stock headlight.

Great video, Great review, just what I was looking for. Most people doing motorcycle reviews just go for a ride. They don't show the bike and you can't hear them or understand what they are talking about. Needless to say i dont watch those. I found a good deal on a 2012 so i think ill go for it. Thank you.

I've owned quite a few bikes in my life-time and my Tiger was the ONE that my wife and I enjoyed the most. I currently have a Suzuki B-King and a KTM 690 Enduro R . The B-king has been worked on and dynoed 196 HP and crazy to ride. The KTM is fun in the city, but after an hour it feels like a 2x4 was rammed up your butt. I miss my Tiger.

That b Kong sounds like a beast! Lol I’ve never heard that 2x4 analogy. I might use that in the future

One problem that I have heard of and have encountered is the front fork tubes can collect grit and get scored, Chewing up seals. I had to replace the tubes after 10,000 miles. If this happens to you, don't buy fork legs online. They are probably scored and worn out. Just replace the tubes. It will be cheaper and with less headaches in the long run. Been there done that.

i think this tiger need new tubes, thanks for the tip ill look into it

I have owned the 1050 for 6 years now and love it. I got rid of the stock paniers and went with very large Givi 46 liter ones. I don't have to cram now. Rode it around the Trans- Labrador Highway several years ago and it did OK using Avon Trail Rider rubber. A 19 or 21" front would have made things better. Not sure what you're using for a windscreen? Love the bike it fits nicely between my Aprilia Futura and KTM 950 adventure.

i love the bike too! im very close to ditching the stock bags, i have a givi top case now and love it. where the trails you rode mostly hard packed trails or more challenging?

Thanks for the video man, I cleared some questions I had about the bike, just bought a 2007 as well. 🤘 Could you please tell me your aftermarket windshield brand? I'm 6"3... not compatible with the stock screen lol

I wish to buy one of these 2 motorcycles: tiger 1050 or fazer 800. I have 1.85cm tall, what do you think, who is more friendly? I ususaly do 2000 miles per year on short trips. Thanx!
@hyperspaceexplorer55943 жыл бұрын
Planning on buying the 2011 soon. But I am short and has less than 30 inches inseam. I was still tip toeing the BMW G310r. I want the Tiger badly... my other option is the 2012 BMW R1200 RT. Similar pricing but BMW has higher mileage. EDIT: Beginner rider... too much HP on the Tiger? So... a KTM RC390 then for my first motorcycle?
@ManaMotors3 жыл бұрын
this tiger is alot of bike. its also top heavy especially with a full tank of gas. i would save for your 2nd or 3rd bike so you can really enjoy it for what it can do. the 1200gs is even heavier haha

I am looking at one of these a 2007 model as a replacement for my much loved and ridden Vstrom 650. Too much of a step up or going in the right direction. No-one has anything negative to say about the Tiger.
@ManaMotors3 жыл бұрын
I think you’ll love it! They’re such underrated motorcycles. The weight may seem a lot at first but the frame really carries it well
@nickbenfell43273 жыл бұрын
@@ManaMotors Well I bit the bullet and bought a 2009 Tiger 1050 today. First impressions. It is easier to ride than the Vstrom and feels lighter which is at odds with your statement. The brakes are a lot better, the windscreen will need to be adjusted as will the mirrors that are not as good as the Vstrom. The engine is ultra smooth and pulls cleanly from low revs - the Vstrom was a bit like a tractor. The Tiger handles beautifully. The foot brake is awkward to use - maybe just a matter of getting used to it. I like the electronic screen especially the k's left to ride. Think I am going to love this bike.
@ManaMotors3 жыл бұрын
Congratulations nick!! This bike still impressed me every time I ride it. It shouldn’t make sense to be this comfortable and this sporty. It’s the the engine just a gem of a motor. Interesting the comparison to the vstrom, since they are “similar” categories. I love the dash on the tiger so more guessing how long till I need to get gas. Also the top speed can be dangerous haha. Let me know what kind of videos you wanna see on the tiger
@nickbenfell43273 жыл бұрын
Just after buying the Tiger had an accident (non-motorbike) and am now at home after back/hip surgery. Is that an after market Givi screen you have on your bike as it looks the same as the one I bought. However I need mine to be a few inches taller as now the buffeting hits me at eye to forehead level - a local firm thinks they can make a bit to fit on the top. How about a video covering the screen, thoughts on engine crash bars and the centrestand (I needed to extend mine to get the leverage to stand the bike up.) really good video though. My grand-daughter loved being a passenger on the Tiger said she felt safer than on the Vstrom.

i paid 3500 for the bike with all the luggage. it has 44K miles and not a scratch on it with both the stock and upgraded pipe. ask if they replaced the electrical system yet. its known to fail on these bikes
