VERY IMPORTANT notice to all prospective DIY-ers. Hey BuddyLe3, your awesome! U helped me saved a lot of money . I recently changed my PSP Fluid first time (2008 accord, 89K miles) and have learnt a lot of things that are worth mentioning in your video. All tools you mentioned are good however, i didn't use the vice grips (too costly!). Instead I just used the regular hose clamp that came with the return line to the 3/8 inch tubing and at the joint of the 2 tubes, i duct taped the connecting tubes so that it would prevent fluids from overflowing. Here are some pointers if it is your first time doing an oil change with over 80k miles. I) While doing a flush, I recommend using Sea Foam Trans Tune (I'm not affiliated with them) so that they really clean up all the gunk and slime in your PSP system. See other videos by Scotty Kilmer. 2) Do not expect 1 time flush will suffice. I initially used 5 x 12oz of Honda PS fluid to do the drain-refill method. Much to my surprise, the mofo liquid NEVER ran clear. It still ran brown (note honda PS Fluid are clear as an egg-white). Soooo... subsequently, i went on ahead and bought another 10x12oz of PSfluid from honda. (By now, i have bought 168oz of PS fluid for about $75. My local honda dealer sells the 12oz bottles for about $5 a piece. I continued to do the drain-refill method until the liquid drained off clear... Maaaaaan, i used up my 9th bottle and finally the fluid that comes off the return line is clear as an egg-white... so literally i used up 14 x 12oz Honda PS Fluids ($70). gee, thats a lot of money. My point is, do yourself a favor, buy yourself a generic 1 gallon (128oz) of PS Fluid from Walmart for $15 and 3x12oz of Honda PS Fluid ($15). It is more cost effective that way. All your really need is just about 30oz of PS fluid. 3) I am not sure how these guys manage to go from 'lock-to-lock" in their steering wheel while draining from the return line. I can't do lock to lock once my fluids are all drained (which took about 3-4 seconds each time). Something is wrong with my PSP? 4) I recommend changing the O-Ring that is on the feeder hose connecting to the PS Pump. It is cheap and saves future headache. Anyway hope this helps you all ! Now my steering wheel feels paper-light and i can do a 1 hand turn.

Nice video. I tried to change my power steering fluid once, but used the 'turkey baster' method, without disconnecting any hoses. I took fluid out and then replaced it with new fluid about 3 times, but probably only got 80% of the old fluid changed. Your method here is much better, thanks.

Thank you for posting this! I just did this today on my 2008 EX-L with the 190 HP 2.4L and it seems to have gotten rid of the annoying whining sound!! The process for the 4 cyl is identical. The only thing I did different was instead of unclamping the small hose from the reservoir to drain it, I unclamped the other end of the LARGER hose from the top of the motor and sorta flipped the reservoir over and drained it into a tuna fish can (had to dump it twice). Seemed a bit easier at least on the 4 cyl. I still spilled a little but not too bad. Thanks again, great job. FYI mine also took 2 bottles.

the noise (specially during winter months) can also be due to a bad O-ring on the power steering pipe. if the issue isn't resolved between a power steering fluid flush and O-ring replacement, you may need to replace the pump. apparently there was a TSB notice/recall on these O-rings so you may want to check with the local dealership if you're still under 100k miles.

Manclubaustin is actually the reason I started my channel. He was the only one that did maintenance vids on KZbin for our car so I followed his videos for help and when he quit I noticed how many people he helped and how they were upset he didn't doing them anymore...i just kind of took over.

thanks so much man! i did it today on my 2008 2 door coupe ex and i got it done, easily. very helpful video, i also only used 2 of those bottles to fill it up a total of $10 at the honda dealership.i also got the clear hose from home depot it cost $4, and i used a 2 liter soda bottle with the cap and made a hole in the middle of the cap and sticked the tube in it..and also cut a small whole on top side of the bottle to let it breath so when the car is on, the air will not fill up the bottle and try to expoled..thanks man! next you should do transmission flush

Hey buddy, In your video you mentioned that User [ManClubAustin] recommended for 4 fluid bottles but didn't say how many he actually end up using. Well i followed his advise since his video popped up earlier and bought 4 bottles of fluid. Although i did notice during the end of the video, he showed the reserviour with clean fluid and mentioned that he flushed couple of times. So most likely if i need it super clean fluid in the pump i may do so. But thanks for the step-by-step tutorial, since you used all the common house hold stuff nothing fancy as his which worked out great for me . Cheers !!!

You keep saying "quarts" referring to the size bottles of power steering fluid. They are 12 ounce bottles. If you used two bottles, you only put 24 ounces in. Two quarts would be 64 ounces, or half a gallon.

Does Your Pump Whine? If you are replacing because of power steering pump Whine read this. There is an oring that goes into front of the power steering pump that goes bad. I had asked several dealer mechanics about the noise...and they all denied it was there. Turns out there was a Service Bulletin Issued on it..Honda would fix it. So much for Dealership Mechanics. I replaced both Orings..about $1.00 each. If you have a V6 it's very troublesome to get to the bolt heads to loosen up the pump. Take a close look before you do it. I ended up using a short wrench to get to it. 2008 Accord with V6.

That's air in the system. With the cap off of the resevoir, turn your car on and turn it lock to lock until you stop seeing it bubble. Once you've bled all of the air out it should stop making that noise.

Yes the car was on jacks to allow me to turn the wheels with no ground resistance. And is it safe?...I don't know. Probably not for a long duration of time but in a quick burst like this it's probably not to bad. I just made sure I bled the system properly and of all air. I was operating solo so it was the only option I had.

We replaced all of the o rings and seals in my 09 Honda Accord and after we put the pump back in place the steering is non existent. Is there something we should have done or need to do to fix this? The reservoir is foamy and does have air bubbles in it.

Can the pulley from power steering ever go bad even though it has no bearing inside ? 2010 Honda CRV
@BuddyLe38386
@BuddyLe38386 8 жыл бұрын
Not sure, but I would imagine that it could become loose after a while. Although it has no bearing, it rides on the mount bolt which acts as a bearing. It could possibly become loose or the inner diameter of that hole the bolt goes through could become slightly larger through time and cause the pulley wheel to wobble. If you have the time, I would remove the belt form that pulley and wiggle it about and see if there is any play. That will tell you for sure.

I have a 09 accord that is making power steering noise, I’ve bled it twice but still makes noise. I think I may need a new pump lol. Only started mapmaking noise after the timing belt was changed and the wrong fluid was used
@BuddyLe38386
@BuddyLe38386 5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. Well, you gotta take all that shit off to get to the timing...what I would do first is remove the belt and spin the pulley on the power steering to see if maybe the bearings got damaged or went bad. If air is still in the system it can cause that noise as well. If the wrong fluid was used then you could be in a world of hurt. Honda's I've read are picky which is why I stick with Honda steering fluid. But using the wrong fluid can cause damage not only to the pump but to your steering rack as well. When you bled it, did you make sure you got all the wrong fluid out?
