Great video! Nice, clear and straight to the point. I prefer 10000x more to "lose" some minutes doing that flush with the car off than running the pump dry. People really underestimate how fast the fluid flows when the engine is running and how much wear you can make in the pump for a few seconds dry.
@peterjoy171310 ай бұрын
Got my answer. The proper tube we want to use is 3/8 inch inner diameter which can be used to plug the reservoir AND for the return line. You also want to get 3/8-in x 3/8-in barb fitting to connect the clear tube and return line.
@AlexTechie4 ай бұрын
>You also want to get 3/8-in x 3/8-in barb fitting to connect the clear tube and return line. Yeah, it might be cheaper than to buy two different sized tubes. But if not, the different sized tube might have more utility.

The proper way to clear the air is to actually leave the top off the reservoir and turn the wheel to full lock each side a few times
@projectskadi9356 ай бұрын
The manual says turning the wheel to the lock position can cause damage to the pump
@fuongbregas5 ай бұрын
@@projectskadi935 if you leave it there in long period, yes, but for short time, no. If you park on a slope, you must turn the wheels.

The front end of the car needs to be raised on jack stands. If on the ground, the friction of the wheels turning will interrupt the bubbles coming up
@teddiazjr.62232 ай бұрын
With the car off or on?
@lernmor21372 ай бұрын
@@teddiazjr.6223 Car is off, front side on jacks. Specifically turn the key into the on position, but do but start it; this allows the steering wheel yo be turned. Remove the PSF reservoir cap and begin to turn the wheel side to side. Start the car and see if the fluid falls. If it falls, turn off and repeat lock to lock. Never keep in lock for more than a split second. Start again and fluid should remain stable. Do not overfill the reservoir as the PS-fluid's weight can prevent proper pumping back in. Only raise the front tires marginally (1 inch off the ground) so it mimics a level ground surface.

This is the best video I've seen so far on how to change power steering fluid. Specifically, other videos have you disconnecting the return line at the other (i.e., non-reservoir) end, which is harder to access and messier. Also, they turn the steering wheel instead of turning the wheel itself; I like your method better since you can monitor the fluid coming out more closely. The turkey baster method seems a bit messy, though; I think I'd want to use a syringe or hand pump instead to minimize leakage. Thanks for the great video!

You did a good job on this video. You made it sweet and simple to understand. I suggest you add a talk on the best place to purchase the fluid or what fluid you like. I think the synthetics are better. Also tell us how much fluid you used for the job.

if you put jack stands under the car, you should lower the car onto them, but leave a some pressure on the jack as well. they aren't gonna help if that car slides off the jack to one side-- might even punch a hole in the bottom of the car. you'd be better off not even using the jacks if youre going to do it that way ((wheels on, and stands w the gap))

Not sure the jack up is necessary, but couldnt hurt. And OEM service manual (8th gen Accord) doesn't even cover "flush" per se, just replace nor the need to jack vehincle. OEM manual steps: Connect drain tube to PS line, states to start the engine, turn wheel lock to lock several times until no more fluid, stop engine. Notes to run engine and keep turning wheel until no more fluid coming out, then immediately stop engine to avoid damage (insinuating bad to run engine long time, but needed short term to successfully purge). Fill fluid to upper level. Start engine, let it idle, turn wheel stop to stop to purge air from system. Add ore if necessary. If still dark or not totally clear repeat process.
@Yophillips32722 жыл бұрын
That seems like a much faster process.
@michaelwright16022 жыл бұрын
Actually, I like this method better than running the motor to drain or purge the old fluid. Less chance of a shade tree "mechanic" burning up the power steering pump. These Honda pumps are not cheap.
@Yophillips32722 жыл бұрын
@@michaelwright1602 Yeah, I ended up doing it with the engine off. Took way longer than I wanted it to. After all the air bubbles were out, I still heard a whine noise, turned out it was the alternator.
