Before you start rebuilding your entire front end on your truck for a loose uneasy feeling steering wheel, watch this video. Might just save you $$$.

I watch your videos religiously and don't understand how I haven't seen this one until now. I've had just about my whole front end rebuilt....ordered the MC shaft today and hoping it takes care of the slop I've had for a while.
@USAF992 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the hell out of the support if the slop is really bad you might also look into adjusting your steering gear box not a whole lot though it don't take much

replaced it this evening. pretty simple job. seems to have alleviated alot of the slop i had. i especially noticed it when going over rough roads/terrain, not nearly as much of the steering wheel bouncing hard left to right. might still need to adjust the gear box a little. thanks for the help brutha!

Idk about 08 and up but 05-07 it’s way easier to take the air box out and get to it that way. At least it is for me in my 05. Second video I watched and I subscribed!
@USAF992 жыл бұрын
Yeah, 08 and up the degas bottle sits right over the top of all of it and the air box is on the passenger side. Sure would have been easier if it was reversed like yours for sure!

Did it help the steering? Thanks for the additional info on 2008 models as I am sure I would have bought the wrong one...lol

Use a dorman shaft on my ford, should have used ford parts which is what I had to do the second time around.

I used it for a couple weeks while waiting on the Motorcraft part to come in. Good call on MC parts!

my built date says 07/07... would it fall under the before 07/30/07 build or after 07/30/07?

Before. 08/07 would start the change.

I have the exact same issue with my 09. Over the past yr I've replaced everything. A few weeks ago I changed the caster shims to 2° Carli shims. This past week I did both upper and lower ball joints..... Which was not easy. But it's made a huge difference but my steering wheel is doing the same thing as yours. Why not replace the entire shaft. Is the lower all that's needed in your case. Thanks
@USAF993 жыл бұрын
The upper on these are essentially a solid steel rod. The lowe has a cushion joint that can go out. It did make a huge difference but I ended up buying a Ford replacement and swapping the doorman part out. It drove me nuts knowing I had a dorman part between my steering wheel and the gearbox.

@@USAF99 So do you think is better to stick with a Ford part?
@USAF993 жыл бұрын
@@juansebastianlopez8828 in most remove and replace instances where performance gains are not what you're after, yes. There are a few instances where the OEM part was trash, in those I say do your research and make an informed decision before you just go down to the local AutoZone.

@@USAF99 Thank you. Do you think in this case the OEM drive shaft is better than the Dorman you first used?
