If you position yourself in the center of the vehicle and you use your left hand to reach around you have more control putting that bolt back in then standing on the passenger side and trying to reach your hand down next to the engine because it's very awkward that way and I see a lot of people do that

I have replaced this part on my 2006 Honda Accord. It's easy to remove but to install it's pain because you can't see where the bolt goes.

Would this cause the engine not to start anymore if it were damaged?
@TOM2RN5 жыл бұрын
Yes, since it involves the variable timing. If the timing is off, in this case the camshaft, you could get a crank no start situation or rough running at the very least. It is super important one does the oil change when specified and use good oil.

Was the car making a rattle when it would first start after sitting for awhile? I only ask cause I have a 16 Accord n it rattles after sitting all night n I'm reading around that it is a common problem in Honda's
@TOM2RN5 жыл бұрын
3232myke Yes. It started a few months after we bought the car. The phaser was bad. Very common issue. I had my mechanic repair it. New phaser, guides, chain, water pump, etc. $$ repair.

I just did mine on my 03 Accord. The Honda dealership charged me $25 for the "O" ring. That being said I didn't want to do this twice by using an aftermarket "O" ring and you never know what you are going to get if you order one. I might have a leak on the backside by the oil pressure sending unit also but I need to clean it up and watch it.

How many miles, or Km if this is the case, you had on the clock when you changed that O ring?
@ruinunes82516 жыл бұрын
TOM2RN thanks for your reply. Apart from this solenoid, are there other issues around this mileage that you are aware of?
@TOM2RN6 жыл бұрын
Yes, unfortunately. The phaser for the VVT went out about a 1000 miles after we bought the car. We bought it with around 80,000 miles on it. It cost me another 1,000.00 dollars to have my mechanic repair this. It is a known issue with Honda and they would not pay any part of the cost to fix it. A new phaser, timing chain. and guides were put into it. The giveaway was the sound on start up. It sounded like a rattle for about 3 seconds. If you don't repair it you will probably lose the engine.
@ruinunes82516 жыл бұрын
TOM2RN thanks again for replying. I will read about this issue. I own a civic 6 gen and it has been a war horse. Now I need a bigger car and I was looking for an accord. Now, considering what you are telling me, I need to look carefully into this. Do you still have this car?

I have a problem, the car goes into limp mode, it does not shift to third gear when the speed is less than 40 km, and this place is very dirty from the engine oil. Could this be the cause of my problem?
@TOM2RN3 жыл бұрын
Keeps the oil flowing through the valves. Keeping it working is crucial to engine life. Don’t change oil as you should damages the engine.

Good video, aside from the occasional dizzying camera work.😉 One thing that was unclear to me was if you needed to remove the bolt that attaches to the timing chain cover. From what I could make of it, it would appear not...am I wrong?

The only bolt I removed was the one holding it in place. Deep in the well.
@0943409 ай бұрын
@@TOM2RN THANK YOU very much for responding, and yes, after further investigation I can confirm this. Now I've come to understand that there is a 'second' solenoid that apparently should be replaced simultaneously, according to some folks. It's some kind of screen (filter), but I'm having a difficult time locating it. QUESTION: Aside from the leak, did a CEL come on in your son's car? When that solenoid is about to fail, it apparently triggers the CEL. I just bought a 2009 Accord that has some caked oil accumulation on top of that connector, but the previous owner claims it was from a bad valve cover gasket that he had replaced. Now I'm not so sure.

Crazy that ORing is still $12 fours later but i went to my local Honda dealer and they tried to charge $24 plus tax for that Oring and I wasn’t paying that so i went online and ordered straight from Honda. I went ahead and bought the Vtec gasket and the spool valve gasket too.

Is this the 3.5L V6 or the 2.4L 4 cylinder
@TOM2RN4 жыл бұрын
4 cylinder.
@PaganWizard6 жыл бұрын
$12 for the O ring, when you could have spent a total of $40 to $50 for a new VTC valve, which would have had a new O ring on it. The R&R procedure would have been the same minus replacing the O ring. The VTC valve has micro filters that clog over time and can effect engine performance and if left unattended for too long, can cause damage to the timing assembly.

how did you pull out the solenoid after getting the screws out, as well as putting it back in. Does it fit w/o a need to tap in?
@TOM2RN5 жыл бұрын
mogtrader8 I had to reach in with my fingers and jiggle plus pull. It’s an o ring that keeps it in place after the bolt is removed. To reinstall I put a little oil on the o ring and pushed it back in. You can feel it seat with your fingers as you push it in.

I have a 2009 same model is burning oil any tips or solution???
@TOM2RN5 жыл бұрын
Giovanny Fajardo It’s my understanding these models burn oil. Not one of Honda’s best efforts. A dry and wet compression test might help determine if the rings are bad. A leak down test also would help determine whether the valves are closing properly.

As many of these as I've done I don't recommend putting something underneath that and unless you're extremely careful you can push the tab down and it will stay unlocked and then you can grab a pair of small angle pliers and pull it off
