2008 Jaguar XK (X150) I found the leak! (I think)

Part 3. I've definitely found where water is coming in. Whether it's the only place I've yet to discover. I will remove the rear quarter window and see if I can get a better look at where water goes and I will (yet again) get underneath the car and make sure the drain holes aren't blocked. I'm about ready to start working on repairing the carpet section..

I have the exact same problem in my 2010 Jaguar XKR! Same area too. It has a small leak that's ruined my back bottom seat. So I will have to reseal mine soon as well.

@@andy-maunder So I took apart, floor in the rear passenger side, but it's not leaking from where yours was; now I am suspecting blocked duck bill pipe and forcing the water to run back. I pulled that rubber floor plug out from the rear passenger side and about 1 litre water came out! More investigations required now.

@@julesdevins2268 if it’s the duck bill you’ll see/feel wetness under the glove compartment. My leaks were barely visible, identified by leaving a GoPro camera running whilst I sprayed water. Good luck.

@@andy-maunder cheers pal - im going to investigate the air con drain and the front rain scuttle and the seam joint, gotta be one of them 😮

@@julesdevins2268 there isn’t a scuttle. Rain just runs through and exits behind the front wheels.. ant that’s where my front leak was. The seam sealer was cracked so I chipped it off and re coated but the issue continued and I realised I had to replace the sealer from inside - see vids - no more issue

Well found…. Looks like this could be a common design fault…. Have been having this happening with my XK8, think I have found the issue, still testing…. Keep up the videos - well presented. John 579

I'm just hoping that's all of it. I have to partially re-build the underside of the carpet moulding next, using latex rubber. Good luck with your XK8 - I'd be interested to know where your leak is.

Hope this works for you Andy. I have a 2010 XK and occasionally find a small puddle of water in the bottom of the spare wheel well. Still trying to find the source of water ingress, but nowhere near as bad as your wet carpets ... thankfully. However it is very close to a patch of joint sealer, so I'll inspect that for cracks next.

I haven't had the time to do much for a couple of weeks but Saturday (day before yesterday) I went out to Paintshop Products (Aldermaston) and took their advice (the guys there have loads of personal experience/knowledge). I came away with the products I need and advice on the best way to apply them.. so I'll get on with the next video update over Christmas.

I have same issue on jaguar 2012 xj portfolio the leak on mine i think is coming from the panaramic roof then down the drain pipes and same one or another top of windscreen sealents. Do yo have a sun roof? Start from there follow the drain pipes down. Did you get to the end if your headache?

Hi, yes I dealt with it and posted the vids on here. Take a look.. The body seal fails because the shell is aluminium and expands/contracts causing the sealant to split.

What tipped you off to the fact you had a leak in the 1st place Andy, was it wet carpets or something else? My XK condensates up inside in the winter months, it's fine in the summer. For now I keep a few large silicate drying crystal bags in the car which helps. I'm not sure if I have a leak but carpets are all dry. I don't do a lot of mileage in the car and most journeys are short so for now I've put it down to wet shoes getting the driver's side overmat wet and it not being driven enough to dry out properly. I jet wash the car myself regularly and haven't noticed any obvious water ingress so far. I am tempted to look under the carpets now!

Hi, it was the smell of damp that got worse so I started looking/feeling around and the carpet behind the passenger seat was soaking. This was because the car was facing up my steep drive and water was coming in through the front bulkhead and running back to the lowest point. Then I turned the car around (facing down the drive and water started coming in from cracked sealer as per the video). When the car is on a level surface - no water ingress at all. I've re-sealed everything now but haven't had the time to put everything back in the car, plus my garage has just be re-built so the car is 'inside' for the first time since it was new in 2008.

@@andy-maunder thanks for replying Andy, let's hope that's the end of your leaking worries. Nothing worse than a beautiful car getting various gremlins! My recent one was the rear subframe, I'd advise any XK to check theirs for rust that's more than surface rust and take care of it before it fails the MOT on it. Replacing it can be a bit of a nightmare unless you are very lucky. Mine is now Waxoyled.
