2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD (OM642) EGR removal

2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK) with OM642 mercedes benz diesel engine. I removed the EGR to inspect for a pending p0402 code (EGR excessive flow). Upon inspection the EGR in question seems to be functioning fine. The code has since cleared. I'm hoping some small debris keeping it open was knocked loose during removal.
Do yourself a favor and drive for a few days with the two bolts loose! Otherwise you'll risk destroying the valve trying to pry it out.

Thanks for sharing your video - this is extremely helpful as I'm sorting a P0299 code on my 08 WK CRD that lists the EGR as a possible cause of the fault - clever solution to getting the valve to release by loosening the bolts and using exhaust pressure to force the valve to pop out!

Yes it worked well. Don't overlook exhaust leaks at the manifold or before the turbo, that's what caused my p0299.

Thank you for the video, very helpful. But quick question: does your EGR valve have 3 wires in the connector that plugs into it? I ask bc my EGR has 4 spades in the unit but only 3 wires in the plug? Thanks I’m advance!

Wery good work . I think mine valve is working hard so dont come back soon and rest open antil you dont turn off the engine. Probaly any debris inside? How can I do ?thanks

Does this engine have an EGR Cooler? And is it easy to pull down?

Can you do a egr delete on these motors? And what benefit would that give?

Most guys disable them with a tune. No real need to fully delete them unless it's physically broken. I believe there are a few kits out there, but you'll still need a tune. Benefits are debated but it should probably help with the sludge produced in the intake (along with CCV reroute).

I have code P0404 i take it its the EGR either needs cleaning or replaced, i found diffrent EGR without the cooling attachments, it does say for Grand Cherokee 3.0 diesel turbo, and it is compatible, how come ?

There are 2 types of EGRs for these engines. The early om642 didn't have coolant pipes for it I believe.

Could of thrown 12v on it to see if the valve was working.
