@jaredmatthews85852 жыл бұрын
Because especially around this time, Sanya was basically undefeated in all of the 400m races she ran throughout the season. She was consistently under 50 seconds , and I’m pretty sure she still has the records for most sub 50 times. She ran the 48.70 American record around this time too. There were several races where she beat these same women by meters. So she really was the favorite going into the race. But Christine was always a beast !
@seunwrites2792 жыл бұрын
@@jaredmatthews8585 I know. And I hear you. But if you have the commonwealth and world champion facing off with an under 50 seconds favourite, you don’t call it an upset. Sub 50 or 49 doesn’t matter unless it’s executed on the D-day when it actually matters. I love SRR too, but the outcome was predictable. Either Christine or Sanya could have won, and it wouldn’t have been an upset either way.
@ajollypanda41752 жыл бұрын
@@seunwrites279 Idk why you are making this so difficult…what do you mean it doesn’t matter? If someone is running fast times leading up to a major event then they will be the favorite…just like shelly ann is the favorite right now despite elaine having the fastest time of anyone alive.
@seunwrites2792 жыл бұрын
@@ajollypanda4175 I would agree except, it’s not an upset. An upset would be if anyone else except Christine or SRR had won. Running the best times in the world doesn’t guarantee a win. An actual win at a deciding event does. Case in point, Sha’Carri.

This race mirrored the 2005 World Championship final in Helsinki, where Sanya Richards-Ross repeated her previous mistake by starting too fast, exhausting herself in the last 50 meters, and being surpassed by Tonique Williams-Darling, who achieved the Olympic/World title double. Richards-Ross employed the same tactics here, sprinting ahead of Montsho and Kapachinskaya in the first 100 meters, only to falter in the final stretch. In contrast, Ohorogu maintained a more consistent pace; she approached the final straight in roughly fourth place, behind Richards-Ross and two of the three Russians, Gushchina and Firova. Thanks to her even pacing, she had enough energy left in the last 100 meters to overtake everyone and emulate Williams-Darling's Olympic/World title double. Compounding Richards-Ross's disappointment, she missed out on the silver medal to Shericka Williams, who, despite being further back at the start of the final straight in about sixth place, finished strong in the last 100 meters to claim second place.
