I agree, I think he should have won con smyth that year actually. Not saying zeterburg didn't deserve it, but Osgood had a better gaa than other goalies that have won the con smyth.

@Poe Javelski it’s true. Cujo went to Detroit to get a Stanley Cup ring. He couldn’t do it because Dave Lewis was the head coach. Lewis was a players’ coach. Babcock, like Scotty Bowman and Pat Quinn, is a no-nonsense coach. I told you if Cujo played for Babs, instead of Lewis, he would’ve been able to win a Cup. Not to mention, the Pens still win the Cup in 2009 against the Wings like they did and Jimmy Howard still takes the starting job away the following season, but it’s from Cujo, rather than Ozzie. I like Ozzie. I’m a Ranger fan 1st, then and Islander and then a Devil. I hate the Flyers 1st, then the Capitals and then the Hurricanes. I don’t mind the Penguins or Sidney Crosby that much. In fact, I love it when they make Flyer fans mad. I like Ozzie and I think he deserved the deep playoff run with the Isles that I had just mentioned.

@Jason Arokiaraj Sounds like a ton of “what if” situations lmao.
Jason Arokiaraj

If the Islanders and Maple Leafs had won their divisions in 2001-02, the Isles would’ve waited to play the Leafs until the ECF and would’ve therefore pulled off the upset and would’ve lost in 7 games to Osgood’s former team, who was backstopped by Dominik Hasek, who was looking to have his name engraved on the Cup. Then, as a result, Curtis Joseph would’ve won the 2001-02 Vezina and William M. Jennings trophies and Mats Sundin would’ve been healthy and would’ve led the way for top-seeded Toronto the entire 2002 postseason and would’ve won the Art Ross trophy. Also, the Wings would’ve acquired Cujo and Mats Sundin in the 2007 offseason, as Cujo would’ve been the biggest fish in the free agent pool and Sundin would’ve followed him to HockeyTown. Therefore, Cujo, Sundin and head coach Mike Babcock would’ve all gotten their 1st ever Stanley Cup ring at the same time.

I remember being absolutely livid when Malone knocked Lilja's stick out of his hand right before the Penguins' second goal. Only Crosby's team could get away with launching the other team's stick 20 feet into the air at the most important point of the season, especially after being gifted a convenient power play.

@Scott Michael Just because the Wings won doesn't mean we can't call out how unbelievable biased the league was in favor of Pittsburgh. That non trip call on Datsyuk in the final seconds could have costed Detroit the game, and therefore the series possibly.

After the 2002 Stanley Cup victory, when Pavel Datsyuk was passed the trophy, all of the commentators mentioned how he was a rookie, and that "he's going to do this again". That's how skilled he was!

It’s not all about points. Datsyuk easily could have had more points and goals if he played a more selfish game. The thing that was truly special about Datsyuk was how he played without the puck. He was probably the best/most skilled 2 way player the game has ever seen. Definitely will be in the HOF...without a doubt.

Detroit Redwings are light years from where the 1997-2008 teams were, but in my opinion, I think the NHL is better when they are competitive. Hopefully, one day they will be back in contention.

I grew up a Hawks fan. I'm 26, so I've seen some legendary Red Wing teams. And some pretty bad Blackhawk rosters. I always wondered what it would be like to see my favorite team be a contender year after year. The Red Wings in this era are the organization everyone is trying to model themselves after as far as success and on/off ice personnel. I was finally happy the Hawks and Hossa got a few cup titles.

Can't believe this was nearly 10 years ago. I was like 15. Times are flying lol Gosh thats weird to think about. But man, the wings in 08 were unreal! One of my favorite teams the wings had. They were so solid and Datsyuk and Zetterberg were in their prime! The wings had so much depth in their lineup. The D was amazing. Osgood and Hasek were awesome! It just couldn't get any better that season. And the following season was just as good but the finals was a bummer, it was shame datsyuk missed that whole series nearly. He didn't play untill game five or six I think. But it just sucked they went up 2 to 0 in the series and blew that and then won a crucial game 5 and won 5-0 but then lose the next two games Especially losing the final game at home. That was brutal to watch. I mean congrats to the pens! But back then I was salty lmao I think it's because I just couldn't stand Crosby and the penguins and back then a lot of people would agree with me lol.

I tell ya, the Stanley Cup playoffs are so stressful, especially the Finals. These games take years off of your life if you have your team playing in them. The Detroit Red Wings fans, and I'm one of them, have a lot to be thankful for from the mid 90's to the late 2000's. Six Stanley Cup Finals appearances and four Stanley Cup Championships, and each year is very special! Let's Go Red Wings!!
