2008 Silverado ECM Resets By Itself

All vehicle computers, modules or whatever we'll call them, have the ability and necessity to retain memory. This is done for many reasons. When you clear the memory, lets say post Check Engine light repair, you're also resetting the "Readiness Monitors". This vehicle seams to be resetting by itself. Should be pretty simple with a couple of quick tests. Didn't see this one coming.

Hmmm. Dang cliffhanger! Now I have heard of this before, I'd like to say the issues were due to Dorman parts, other modules, specifically. Especially if powers & grounds were verified & load tested. IDK if they were vehicle or year specific, but for SURE, if a Dorman module is being used elsewhere on the vehicle, this affects the ECM as well. Looking forward to part 2! Great job in taking over the area Corey! I have faith, you're able to fill those shoes no problem! 😊🤗🤗

I believe I had a similar issue a couple years ago on a similar truck. If I'm not mistaken there is a bulletin out on it. I won't say anything but I'm sure that's the issue. Thanks for sharing.

I've had the same issue with my autel where you can't back out, if you click one of the tabs in the upper right of the screen you can delete the current vehicles history and it will let you out, faster than rebooting, somehow the file gets corrupted.

I have not seen the problem nor have I seen any comments below. My deduction is in order to reset the codes you have to send a signal to reflash the eprom. In order to do that the Cranmer would send either a ground or power to the e prom. My guess is someone probably tapped into the OBD connector and somehow are reflashing the ECM. Just my guess but I might be way out to lunch. Let me know I will watch part deux for sure

Close. It was, in fact, a botched signal of sorts. First thing I did after checking powers and grounds, was look for aftermarket stuff under the dash.
