I just bought this tuner for my 09 f150 with the 5.4, it only came with a tow tune for each octane? Is that what you got or was there supposed to be performance tune as well? Thanks

I had 5star tunes on my 2009 F150 FX4. Definitely makes the truck shift harder and moves the shift points up higher in the rpm. If you romp on your 5.4 you will like this tune but if you drive slow and easy this wont be ideal. Also, my battery died once doing this tune and it was a pain. Make sure your at home with a bttery charger near by. Is it worth 400-500$$$... nah! I'm sure they are making a killing on these tunes. I'd pay 100 max for tuning a 10 year old truck. if you have money to blow you should have just bought a 5.0 coyote 2011 or newer f150. If you just have to mod yours get an intake kit, exhaust, and mike at 5star tunes. You will definitely feel it in your butt dyno and your 5.4 Triton will rev out significantly more. I beat on mine from 90k miles to 186k miles and then I blew my rear main seal. Lost a few quarts every 3000k miles but the old 5.4 3v ticked along. Oh and if your VCT starts rattling at low rpm when warmed up just leave it be and change your oil every 3000k miles. I beat on mine until 200k and then traded it in. Also, those early 6spd trannys will shift so hard you might break your neck so just be ready for some exciting downshifts.

Normally I would think you are over exaggerating but I rode in my buddies 2004 5.4 and he has a tune on his and his shifts so fast I had to ask him if he had a shift kit.. "... what's that?" I was like are you serious? And he was like what are you talking about. All he had was a tune and it shifted haarrrddddd I mean it surprised me 😂😂 I'm sure it can't be good on the trans but he don't care lol

@@user-mk4se3nu5z it would scoot between 20-50 after that it ain't nothing special. Anything above 85 or 80 it was just a dog. 85-95 took waaayyyyy too long

Does this particular model need to stay connected to the vehicle even after the tune is loaded? Or can it be unplugged and stored, and only plugged in when needing to change tunes/check DTCs?

Mike at 5star tuning will set you up with the tunes you need. 87 performance, 89 performance, 91 or 92 or 93! Hell you can even get an E85 tune if you can find the fuel near you and your truck is E85 ready! Most 2009-2010 F150 5.4V8s were flex fuel ready. Just look at your filler cap and if it says "E85" around it you should be fine. I wouldnt waste money on an octane booster!!! Just run the 87 or 89 performance tune as a daily. E85 would be ideal if you really want make power and dont care about mpgs.

No, it will actually help it last longer. The tune will help it shift quicker, thus less slip
