this was a hack job...just remove the resistor pack and spray to evap core through that hole using microchannel safe cleaner. I have had good results using the venom pack brand condenser cleaner yellow label, its no rinse...do it more than once if filthy..spraying into the condenser from the front just pushes the sand further in (what really blocks it) but removes the bugs that block very little. over filling your ac system to the point liquid is returned to the compressor does not make your ac colder, in fact it makes it less efficient and can damage the compressor internally...fill by weight measurements only.

Could you explain a little better you way of cleaning the evaporator?

This guy is the definition of a shade tree he just said you don't need the cover on the cabin air filter😂. I guess you don't if you don't mind the air filter getting clogged up every month

Just some helpful advice for when you're cleaning your next condenser coils at the front of a ram there are 410 mm head sized bolts holding that front upper grill in place once those four bolts are removed. Just simply pull back the same as if you were taking out the centre of the dash in the vehicle. There's just a few body clips made of plastic that hold the upper grill in place once the bolts are removed then you'll be able to game better access if need be with your garden hose to spray down the AC condenser coils in order to optimize your air condition, efficiency. I'll have to check my inside AC evaporator to make sure it's not clogged because I've never checked it but I have changed my cabin air filter. I currently have 112,000 mikes or 180,000 km in CANADIAN on my vehicle. My air conditioning seems to run perfectly fine, but it wouldn't show its face right away if everything was dirty, so I might not even be noticing it.. thanks again for the helpful tips.

Yes it's definitely always better to take the grill off to clean the condenser especially if it's impacted with dead bugs and stuff. Thanks for the insight and thanks for watching my video.

You can use a 10mm and remove the grill it will make cleaning the front a whole easier

would this cause overheating when AC is running only on IDLE?? Got the same truck and weak airflow comes and goes sometimes flows good then out of nowhere flows very weak and when trucks in IDLE with AC on tends to overheat up to 217

That sounds like your electric radiator/ condenser fan under the hood. The air conditioning will work fairly well when you're traveling down the road but when you stop at a light it will start blowing hot. If you have automatic climate control it can slow the fan motor under the dash down as well so it makes it feel like it's blowing weak coupled with a warmer temperature. So you need to check your radiator cooling fan that is probably the problem

Could you reach the heater core with this method
@greasebellygarage
@greasebellygarage 2 жыл бұрын
No but you should not need to. It's located after the evaporator and mostly protected from getting dirty.

I did same exact thing on my service truck and its perfect my truck didnt come with a filter so it gets plugged up all the time and all the other trucks in the fleet also did not come with one from ford too rams its not a havk job its an acess port 😂 its so simple now too wash them our company is a landfill so we have tons of dirt in cabs all the time and ppl leaving windows down too ao this is a fix rather do this than tear out a evap for 3 days every 4 months i dont have thag kind of time

That was exactly my point to the video thank you for watching. And you're right it's easier to leave it done this way and just do the cleaning more frequently than it is to tear the dash apart and put in a new evaporator. Mine was a truck work truck that was worked very hard.

For some reason I'm oblivious to the key dinging I never have known why. Thanks for watching the video!

First thing TAKE OUT THE KEY!!! The dinging is driving me crazy, Second if you are a professional HVAC guy I am tossing my license in the trash, Beer can cold is not an approved method to charge any refrigeration system. On a vehicle putting a thermometer in the vent would be better than that, but proper gauge pressures, with superheat and subcool are the right way to ensure charge. At the very least spend some time on HVAC School here on KZbin. Also did a rabid badger chew those holes in the duct??
@greasebellygarage

Good Point on the key dinging I always forget about that. Everything you're saying is absolutely true considering everything else is perfect. This was fixing an old truck and a pinch that clearly probably needed a new evaporator to begin with. I live in Florida where it's hotter than 400 hills so I always downsize orifices, etc. Obviously when I'm working in someone's home I don't do these things. Pressures, temperature differentials and I even measure it, sometimes, with a scale. Thanks for watching my video I may consider making a proper video in the future when I'm not working on a piece of junk.

And the holes in the duct were made with a razor blade and a dull ductboard knife if I remember correctly.

What hack job. Get the tools to cleanly do this job or don’t do the job. Great example of how not to do it.

Thank you for your concern obviously I could do it much better job. I'm actually up a professional residential technician for HVAC here in Florida that's just my old beater work truck but yes I could have taken the time to cut out the access and done things much nicer. This video was done as a quick demonstration for somebody that was in a pinch. Of course my method as nasty as it is it's still working perfectly and it's still remains clean. In fact I'm sitting in the truck right now with cold AC I probably need to replace my filter again though. I will make an updated video on how to do this properly.

I'm a professional residential HVAC tech this was simply a budget-minded repair that would work in a pinch. The professional way to fix this is to replace the evaporator.

Or you can take the 10 minutes and remove the dash. You don't have to destroy anything
@greasebellygarage
@greasebellygarage Жыл бұрын
Yes that is the proper way to do it but I was in a hurry. I have sent sold the truck and the AC was still working great a few months ago. I never had to replace the evaporator and I ended up resealing the plenum with metal and it worked much better.

While yes it would take more than 10 minutes to take the dash out of the truck but would you want a big jagged hole in the bottom of your AC or would you want it done right and clean it out properly I have a Laramie and I would prefer to have it cleaned out properly
