This Tundra does not have a fully boxed frame and that's the issue with these trucks. Toyota finally did box the frame in 2022 but got rid of the V8

Hey Franky, I just wanted to follow up with you to see if you’ve received word back from Casey’s follow up with Mark on his experience with the Tundra. It’s been 10 yrs now and I am sure it’s been a stellar vehicle so I’d thought I reach out to confirm this very important matter that keeps me up every night. Looking forward to your response soon.

Tundra owners have nothing to worry about. This truck will last for years and the service at the dealers are second to none. My dealings with ford at the dealer was a complete nightmare.

NOVEMBER 2009 -- Toyota is recalling model year 2000-2003 Tundra vehicles. Excessive corrosion of the rear cross member may cause the separation of the spare tire stowed under the truck bed which would present a road hazard that could cause a crash. Also, corrosion of the rear cross member could affect the rear brake lines and the proportioning valve resulting in diminished braking capability. Separation of the spare tire and diminished brake capacity could increase the risk of a crash.

Thats because there are tons of Toyota's on the road. Ford may have invented the assembly line but Toyota has pretty much set the standard on how it is done today. All three of the American auto makers strive to emulate Toyota's manufacturing techniques. Also its not like Ford as you mention has a spot free record of safety issues. The Ford Pinto being the most notable where Ford actually decided not to fix the problem because they figured it would be cheaper to pay for the resulting deaths.

DECEMBER 2007 -- Toyota is recalling 15,616 MY 2007 Tundra 4-wheel drive pickup trucks. Due to the improper heat treatment of the slip yokes that had been reworked during the manufacturing process, the hardness of the slip yoke is insufficient. In this condition, the yoke will break causing the propeller shaft to separate at the joint and come into contact with the road surface or the fuel tank which will result in a loss of vehicle control or fuel leak. 07V579

I had my mind made up to buy one of these back in ‘09, that is until I actually took one for a test drive and realized it didn’t live up to my expectations. I went with a F150 instead which I hadn’t even been considering until I drove it.

@awhoop09 The F-Series pickups are built in a number of locations, including Dearborn, Michigan, Kansas City, Missouri, São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, Valencia, Venezuela and Cuautitlan, Mexico. The Kentucky Truck Assembly does make the F-250 and 350, I didn't know that. The F-150, however, is made in the other locations above.

It might depend then on what model, what options, etc. I don't have exact numbers, but "According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Toyota Tundra has the highest U.S. parts content of any pickup, at 80 percent." I have seen Mexican F-150's, but also plenty of Japanese Tacoma's. It varies by model. I say buy the truck that fits your needs, and take a look at the American-Made Index to determine how much you are really supporting your own country.

@thenixter101 Transmission yes, but not the engine. USA laws requires the manufactures produce 50 + % ( if u know what I mean) in the USA. All the electronic staff is made in Japan. The frame, body, suspension, interior, engine are made in the USA, otherwise the have to pay 100% TAX to sell the motor.

I have problems taking trucks serious, when they lack steel bumpers or side bars. Color keyed bumpers are a vulnerable, and turn modern trucks into showboats instead of work horses. Nice interiour as well, but can you clean it with a garden hose?

The defected pedals are made by CTS corporation and they are an American based company. I dont think it was an oversight on Toyotas part, more a cost cutting measure by CTS. The reason that Toyota is able to undercut the Big Three isnt because of their Japanese profits its because they dont hire Union Workers. The big three are all global companies as well and they are wildly successful overseas. I would love for the big three to bring more back to the US but im not betting on it.

Ford, and any GM product sucks, you can go out and buy those but youll be buying a new one or fixing it faster than you would if you bought a Tundra, Toyota is known for its reliability, longevity, and resale value. Its just as capable with those other trucks but a much better choice. Go Tundra!!!!!

DETROIT, May 29 (Reuters) - A glitch in Toyota Motor Corp.'s Tundra pickup truck has caused 20 engine failures and forced it to track down other trucks at risk for the problem, the Japanese automaker said on Tuesday. Toyota said a flaw in the camshaft in the 5.7-liter, V-8 engines installed in the Tundra has caused the engine component to crack and fail.

@1typhoonlover Your mostly right, however not all of that is true. Im a domestic truck fan and even more bias; a GM truck fan. But I do appreciate all vehicles because im not completley bias. I do agree with you for the most part but every vehicle has its advantages. The best transmission in a pickup truck is actually the Allison 6 spd transmission found in the 2006+ modles of GM Turbo Diesel trucks. the 5.7 Iforce engine is a decent engine but it really dosnt compare to most of domestic trucks.

The Toyota Tundra was built in Princeton, Indiana, and now all are made in San Antonio, Texas. My maps inform me that that is far more American than Silao, Mexico, where many Silverado's are built, or Sao Bernardo do Campo, Brazil; Valencia, Venezuela; or Cuautitlan, Mexico where most F-150's are made. Would you rather "buy American" and ship those manufacturing jobs to south america, or support your own autoworkers and buy a truck made in the USA?

Im a domestic truck fan, Im not gonna lie though the tundra is a pretty nice truck. Its good for the family, economic (compared to pickup trucks) and it will get light duty stuff done like every other pickup truck. But heavy duty work the tundra wont get it done and thats where I would rather have my Chevrolet silverado turbo diesel, cuz I just dont see a tundra pulling a 29' camper that weighs in at almost 10,900 lbs

@alexkvaskov US Treasury Bill definition: Definition A negotiable debt obligation issued by the U.S. government and backed by its full faith and credit, having a maturity of one year or less. (In other words, for the slow among us, they buy the bills, we pay them interest, just like you may pay interest on a loan, thus the US govt. pays them a rate of interest, meaning WE PAY OUT MORE THAN WE RECEIVE, kind of like a bad credit card bill.

people that say that fords or other american built trucks don't last, are wrong! neighbor has a 1995 ford f150 with everything original in it. never had the engine replaced, nor the transmission, nothing major! just basic things like the battery, brakes, ect. that truck is in the shop way less then any toyota i have ever seen! american trucks are built for work. toyota trucks are made for whimps who think they need a truck but they dont want to give up the car like drive!

@Greg9942 Ohhh where it's built and assembled has to do with A LOT of the quality. US autoworkers don't take pride in their work, it's all about the paycheck. I know what goes on, on the line. And what company is perfect? GM is far form it. But all of Toyota's problems started happening when parts content and assembly was sent to the US. My aunts 2006 Tundra has 200k on it and she never did anything so far, not a speck of rust on the exhaust pipe. And that's in MI snow.

I have no Beef with the companies, even though my F150 I had was an absolute piece of shit. It's the fan boys of those companies.... They are so ignorant to think their trucks are 100% made here in the US and they are superior to all. I drive A truck no matter what the company it's under. I drive A Tacoma because it's the best Midsize and if I needed another Fullsize I'd go with A F150.

That's funny, because I got A 99 4x4 F150 and it was the biggest piece of shit I've ever owned. Went through 2 alternators, the odometer stopped working, had the auto transmission regeared (i had to move the column shift up so the truck would shift gears because it would ride 2nd gear,) passenger side auto slide window stopped working, paint faded even though it wax it, radiator hose broke, horrible axle wrap, master cylinder coil pack stopped working. Sorry Fords don't have quality bro.

The Tundra has more US part content than the "domestic trucks" and its made in Texas not Canada or Mexico. The Tundra has better engines, transmissions, brakes, front end components and safety features. Ask yourself why does the big three charge close to the same price or a truck when they use old technology and they pay to build them????

@jkguitarfreak95 Have research American trucks and the new Tundra, or are you basing your entire argument solely on your neighbor's (admittedly problematic) Ford? The pre-2007 Tundra was designed to drive like a car. When it failed to compete against its American rivals, Toyota completely redesigned it, producing the current model. It has the same capabilities as American trucks, but has scored a perfect 10 on reliability. BTW, my dad is selling his unreliable 2001 Ram 1500 5.9 for a Tundra 5.7.

@hjuddm tundra built in america designed by americans for americans. Ithe Tundra has 80% domestic content and costs lets say $35,000, than 80% of that money - about $28,000 - staying in the US lets say the average F-Series costs $35,000, and we know only 55% of that truck is domestic content, that means only $19,250 stays in the US and Canada.
