It would be interesting to bring that decibel meter to a bike show and do a test of different exhausts on crossplane R1's to see how different they are in terms of sheer volume. I've always wondered how much louder Toce Slash pipes were in comparison to say a 3/4 Akropovic system.

You got it! It is the crossplane crankshaft, causing the firing order to be different then that of a typical Japanese sport bike.

Well for comparison a silenced Barrett .50 cal sniper rifle puts out 110 DB and when it's not silenced it's at 135 DB I think. So just imagine how loud a 50 caliber sniper is

Depends on what year you are looking at. For a used 08, you're looking at about 6,500 - 7,000, and for 2010, you're looking at about 9,500.

Yea the crossplane crankshaft actually rotates backwards that's what gives it the sound and torque of a v-twin and the top end and reliability of the inline 4 its like the best of both words!

no it doesn't. A crossplane I-4 sounds like a v8. to get a v10 acoustic you need 5 cylinders.

Haha!! I agree. I am getting there, but I am still building confidence. I don't want to ride beyond my skill level just because I have a 1000 :). But soon enough I will have them gone! It's a goal of mine to get a knee down. I also need to get a suit, so I feel more confident.

Just so everyone knows. 120db is 500 times more intense of a sound than 70db (how loud he was talking. Each additional 10db is 10 time more intense. In terms of perceived loudness, 120db would be 32 times louder than 70db, for each 10db a sound is perceived to be twice as loud. In terms of safety (for out ears) you should only expose yourself to 120db of sound for 10 seconds before damage to your ears can occur. This means that you should have a nicely insulated helmet if you plan on getting a loud exhaust. Btw, an AR15 produces a sound level of about 160db.

Any noise complaints or police attention? Just got the voodoo shorty exhaust for my 03 R6 and a little nervous about taking it on the street. I've ordered a baffle for it however. Sounds sick though....the speakeasy for voodoo sounds about like that

After trying the toce, would you rather go with toce or gytr carbon cans, I love the look but the sound appears to be like my friends voodoo . Very sharp and growly, which isn't a bad thing, but wouldn't you rather drop the undertail exhaust heat for a cheaper voodoo. I've found that my R1 runs really hot "like 220°kinda hot", and blasts your legs with heat and the seat gets even warm, so my question is, should I get toce or a carbon gytr or save money and run a voodoo or coffmans exhaust?

I have r1 2006. can't decide if I want to invest into TOCE or not... I want a deeper sound but don't super loud... I used to have r6 06 with straight pipe (no cat) and it was too loud on highway. R1 is def holds better on highway because of 1000cc but I am not sure if that would change with TOCE. also it's $831 bucks and I bought bike for $3900 its like 1/4 of the bike. can you guys help me ? if you have TOCE do you still enjoy it? should I buy it?

Haha, well I'm a fairly small guy, and this helmet is actually a medium. The icon variant is a generally bigger looking helmet than most. But it does make me look like a bobblehead lol

If I can remember correctly R1's have a weird firing pattern, different than all other inline 4s which helps them have that unique tone on their on, regardless of exhaust.There's a reason why they sound different than Kawi, Suzuki and Honda 1000's.
