Well done Mike, people forget that this is what you do for a living, not part time or a hobby. I worked on a Ford and a Peugeot this week, that was enough to try the patients of a saint. Ford have gone all odd size nuts, 15,16,18, you get my rant, and as for the Peugeot, well, it is French, need I say more. Rant off my chest, have a good weekend.

Peugeot is French for 'we haven't got the parts'...

Hi Mike, when I fitted power steering to my 2.5 petrol I bought the bracket and plate from someone breaking a 19J, I then bought a 200tdi style pump to go on it as I preferred that style of fitting on the pressure pipe with the O-ring rather than bango bolt and dowty washers. When I came to fit the pipes the pressure fitting was facing the chassis meaning I couldn't get the pipe on at all so I seen on a forum someone had the same problem and had redrilled the 4 bolt holes mounting the pump to the plate to clock the pump about 45 degrees, worked a treat for me to use that style of pump.

Glad it worked out for you ! Being a LHD, with the pump tight to the chassis, and close to the steering box, there is not that much wriggle room So I used the original 2.5 NA bracket and pump, but hose was crap - looked like it came off a 1970's JCB

Hi Mike My 200tdi Defender engine seems so much tidier..... Your engine seems very crowded. I can take a video/photos of mine and email them to you if you wish

Proper 200tdi (turbo up) in a Defender... I just love these, the world is full of Disco 200tdi conversions (which are good choices, don't get me wrong) - but in an old Defender the true king is the 200tdi with the turbo on top of the intake :D Just my preference, if u will. Lovely engine!

When I had the hydraulic shop make up some oil cooler hoses for my new rad set up, I had them use a connector instead of crimping the pipe directly on the hose. That way I can adjust orientation before tightening the connector.

I didn't like hydraulic lines on oil cooler pipe - a bit too ridged - also even with STD pipes, you must clamp the 2 together - especially with the plastic tank radiators - I have seen 2 oil coolers crack internally and allow oil to get into the coolant - very messy!

@@BritannicaRestorations They didnt actually make up the hose/pipes from new, just adapted different types of the original oil hoses. I had the old cone type connector on the filter housing outlets and fitted a new tropical radiator that had the O ring fitting, so I bought a pair of new hoses and they split them and re-joined the old and new types with connectors. Worked for me at the time. I agree about having them clamped securely!

Those wavy crimps on oil cooler hoses look very much like A/C crimps, and I have a tool to do them - maybe A/C hose can be used for oil cooler hose? May have a look into it!
