Rich, I am impressed with your explanation, knowledge, and necessary steps to get this Audi back in service. I knew you were good at Nav with thr case files you submitted. You are really good. I am smiling as I write this, knowing that you found your calling. You have to work on this stuff and make a peofit. I have to meet a lower standard, solve the problem at all costs for thr customer. As a Level 4, there is nobody to ask for help. The 3rd attempt to repair has been made ...and the vehicle is about to become a RAV. I have every tool available to me. You have to do better ...and make a profit. I am working on a 10 Impala with a lateral engine-trans oscillation under acceleration. I think that it is lower control arms, subframe looseness under load, and a "softening" of strut tower stiffness due to Chicago rust and a "grandpa" accident that loosened spot welds. I cannot imagine fixing this car for a profit with reasonable repair costs. This is why the engineers and technicians that know their stuff have so much mutual respect. You are The Man.

I have a 2017 A4 Quattro S-Line Premium Plus…has been nothing but reliable. However, I realize if you don’t stay on top of maintenance, it will get away from you quick. I go with 5k oil changes and not the 10k recommended. Do all the maintenance in my garage. Great explanation Rich…thanks!

Having worked for an Audi dealer I have to say that they are nice driving cars. The majority of customers leased their Audis and after the lease was up they simply leased another. We rarely saw out of warranty Audis for customer pay work. It was a co-worker's friend who owned an old 4000 Quatro that coined the phrase "the four rings of financial ruin". Out of warranty Audis will drive the owner to either insanity or the poorhouse.

We had a customer with an Audi Q7 a little while ago, he brought it to us needing some heavy repairs because he took it to the Audi dealer and they told him straight up we don’t work on Audis over 100k miles, mind you this car was like 4 years old and he bought it from that dealer like a year before this, this customer was absolutely fuming lol

I had 1. Cost me alot. All who have them and keep them they cost them. I loved that 5cyl awd car. But when it's fixing time, it's not cheap, easy, etc. Shame.

Audi makes beautiful vehicles, I would love to own one if they weren’t built like trash. I always like how Audi looks & drives (a few I’ve been in). Thank you for sharing. I’m so grateful for you in my life. My whole family loves you.

I got rid of my 2016 GTI after having it for less than a year. The more I researched VW engines (Audi engines), the more I was seeing major $$$$ once the warranty ran out. Way too complicated on top of super expensive parts.

Hey Rich!! I feel the pain on those decarbon jobs. I was an AUDI dealer tech in ‘12-13. I did a couple of those clean outs the old “Chimney Sweep” way. Then Audi came out with the TSB for the repair. Basically you pop out the front plugs and run a flexible wash wand all thru the head powered by an electric power washer. It works great and is so much easier than manually removing all the soot. There are aftermarket versions of the tool available now I think. I did a bunch of them being as I was way low on the totem pole. I got them done in under a day. Any good Audi counterman will know those part #’s by heart. If you do another one, it would really save the custy vs an engine R&R. Keep up the good work Brother!!!

Hello Rich: Thank you for this informative video. Many times I've spoken to my customers about this carbon condition + the outrageous costs & mist of them just get rid of the car cause this design dictates that it will return Great job Rich, God Bless & have a profitable week, TMP from N.J.

Exactly why I don't work on cars no more, only my own and family and friends,,, too over complicated for no good reason.. Miss the days of a four barrel big block with manual 4 speed and roll up windows. 2 or 3 vacuum lines and you where all good!!! Thanks for the great content!!(,,, and keep it coming. PS,,, Still waitin for some Hot Rod Lincoln in the background when you're working on it. Next will be the Bill Elliott speed record,,, can't wait for that!!! Keep it coming,,,,Peace out!!!

Those secondary passages are fairly annoying. Seen it happen usually around 150K miles on the EA837 3.0T, where a lot of guys will also do a timing service while it's out. These engines do generally last a long time with decent maintenance, seen a lot of em over 250K miles original motor & trans.

I just bought the Audi pressure washer hose lances for $1200 couple months back. Ports cleaned per TSB in about 3.5 hours. $100 for coolant and necessary gaskets. We’ll worth investment as this is a super common issue on the 3.2 and 3.0t

Good morning Rich. I was wondering if there was any chance I could pick your brain on a problem I'm having with parking sensors on a 2023 F250 after installing a Tommy gate. The truck is throwing a fault code, but I tried the harness on another truck on the lot and it worked fine.

I deal with this very often in California rich at our smog shop. One trick is attempting to install a funnel and tube into passages and pour couple cans of gm top engine cleaner or Bg engine flush. Must let cleaner soak at least 24 hours or best is for 48 hours.

Having owned two Audis and an F150 I can vouch. Audis are the best cars to drive period. They are solid as hell. People who are scared of them shouldn’t call themselves car people. Will it humble you? Yes. Will it cost a lot? Yes. But you know what, it will teach more about cars than any other.

Name another brand that has interiors built so tight, they don't move or squeak. Or lacks a tin can feel while driving. Puts out great performance. And is decently reliable. all of which can be said regardless of model. Fact of the matter is every brand breaks. You want performance and luxury then you have to work harder to fix them. Sure a 98 Tacoma doesnt die but it's not breaking necks, fast, have decent mpg, or luxurious. best is subjective but with what I said im talking in general overall driving experience an Audi is the best. @@FordBossMe

Nah german build EUDM Mercedes are a league above Audi. A maxed out E Class is the most luxurious vehicle you can buy here and its probably still cheaper than the flagship Audis. And with Mercedes they tend to be one class above Audi in terms of reliablity and how they are engineered. Audis drive so well though. Mercedes are more laid back and not as sporty. But honestly some Audis are absolute fucking trash. They rust, blow out transmissions, have constant issues with the engine etc...

My brother has one of these, but a 2010. He keeps getting a P0304 and P130A on Cylinder 4. He's changed the plugs, coils, hp fuel pump, injectors, and just about everything else you can think of. The pressure is about 10 PSI below all of the rest of the cylinders. Everything else about the engine is normal. He can reset the code, and drive on the highway without the code appearing, but as soon as he hits an off ramp and the engine slows down, it will set that code and run rough again. I'm thinking he might have a rocker bearing that's gone, or a cam that's worn low. Even possibly the system you talked about in this video could be an issue? We are stumped at this point. He's cleaned the carbon on the intake, which wasn't that bad surprisingly, as well as running an intake cleanse through it. Otherwise, the car is in great shape. It has about 151k on it. Any ideas what could be causing this code to appear? And is there a way to stop it from hiding the cylinder?

That is interesting! That carbon build up in the air injection port suggests that either this engine burns oil or it is not vaporising the fuel properly going into the cylinder causing it to produce soot. Hence the turbo version probably generates a bit more heat and air turbulence helping it to burn the remainder fuel. So the air system does not fowl because they burn maybe a little cleaner. I wonder what the fuel economy is like on the NA version?

If Audi build this car in the late 90s early 2000s it would most likely still be more trouble free with double the miles and age. They just became crappier every year.
