ADDITIONAL INSIGHT REGARDING VIDEO: As far as the use of anti-seize when replacing spark plugs......most plug manufacturers today state NOT to use anti-seize when installing. Although, this is a more recent revelation, 10 years ago Autozone would try and sell you an anti-seize pack with a spark plug pictured on it any time you purchased plugs lol. Many mechanics still use anti-seize when doing plugs, and I’ve personally done it on countless vehicles for over 15+ years with 0 issues. For me, this article pretty much sums it up: agradetools.com/be-confident-with-anti-seize-how-to-use-the-right-anti-seize-like-a-boss/ ..Basically as the article is stating, if you have a bunch of people overtightening their lubricated spark plugs from inexperience & stripping out their engine heads....the plug manufacturer could be held liable. By telling you not to use anti-seize they reduce their liability, and they wouldn’t be held responsible for you over tightening their plugs. I think experience is a huge factor with the use of anti-seize, and obviously if it’s going to be used, moderation is the key to success for its use. Less is more. Only a small coat around the center threads is necessary, you don’t want to affect the plugs grounding abilities by drenching it with anti-seize. An issue that can arise from using too much anti-seize is that it gets into the combustion chamber area where is could potentially short out the electrodes. In hindsight......considering a lot of people watching this probably don’t have a ton of experience with plugs/anti-seize...I felt I at least should share a disclaimer that anymore plug companies don’t suggest it use. For me, it’s more or less habitual at this point, and in most cases I’m sure you could get away without using it, but for certain applications I still think it serves a purpose when used modestly. A general rule many consider when choosing to use anti-seize is if the plug has an anti-seize plating (chromey looking finish), do not use it. If the plugs have a dull iron or black finish on the threaded area, it’s ok to use anti-seize. In my opinion, the use of anti-seize is optional and a matter of preference, and with or without its use a spark plug job can be done successfully.

That gray tab was not coming off on the first coil pack. I felt like it was close to breaking so I just took off the mounting bolts for the coil and the sensor right next to it and that worked out good for anyone that runs into this problem. Idk if it would work on the other coils but it did on the first.

The spark plugs I bought yesterday look different. Not one hook on the top but like a piece of that makes sense. Are they correct? I told advance the correct car.
@TheOriginalBeeCee6 ай бұрын
They probably are a multiple ground “prong” design. Simply just a different spark plug design. I’m sure they are a match and fit the car….its just not the OEM plug or design. I personally like going with the OEM plug part #/design when replacing plugs. But that doesn’t mean you can’t utilize something else with no issues. And 99% of the time I wouldn’t trust a parts counter guy to pick your parts for you lol.

Thanks for the video man, just read my service interval manual and I'm 3 years overdue (bought the car new exactly 6 years ago) because I'm cheap and stupid but I'm only at 60,000km. Excited to see how the engine feels/sounds after I change these out today. Fuel economy and horsepower should improve yes? Any other benefits to new spark plugs that a newbie should know?
@TheOriginalBeeCee4 жыл бұрын
Hey what’s up man. Unless you’re vehicle is misfiring, you most likely will not experience any drastic changes. But typically speaking, new plugs can improve fuel economy as you mentioned, keep your engine running at peak performance, and can give you better smoother starting. But basically more neglected plug maintenance/misfiring would have more noticeable improvements.

@@amandajeanjacques9248 honestly just sounds like the car needs a good diagnosis. Aa in, have it monitored with a good OBD tool, and maybe even get a compression test, etc. One thing you can try is comparing that 4th plug to others, as far as condition-wise. A plug can actually tell you a lot. Check out some spark plug condition diagrams to compare.

For those of us who don’t have a torque wrench, is there any way we can tighten the ignition coils similar to how tighten the sparks plugs, or would recommend purchasing a torque wrench instead?

I was told not to use any anti-seize or even torque specs for that matter because they have a crush washer and to just give it a quarter turn after it’s tight.
@TheOriginalBeeCee3 жыл бұрын
Anti-seize isn’t recommended to use on plugs anymore by manufacturers, really due to liability issues. They suggest over-tightening can occur when using it. That being said you can really do whatever you feel most comfortable with. You can use it, or don’t have to use it. I’ve been using it forever on numerous vehicles and never had an issue. Hell, about 12 years ago Autozone would sell a anti-seize packet made directly for plugs and they would try to sell it to you every time you bought plugs lol. But if using, you want to be modest and not use much at all. I just barley coat the threads. I should have put a disclaimer in the video regarding this when I mentioned it. As far as torquing, never heard of not torquing a plug or it being an issue, and not to mention most OE FSM’s provide torque specs for plugs. That said, you can definitely get away with and be just fine with just giving a quarter turn after tight. But once again, I would say do whatever you’re comfortable with. Really all of the above no matter the method of choice can be done 100 percent successfully 👍
@6atlantis3 жыл бұрын
@@TheOriginalBeeCee I don’t want to over tighten them with those washers but I’m going to use a little like I always used too. There are torque specs out there but mostly conflicting info from 3rd party websites(15-21lbs). Thanks again!

What do I do when someone mixes up the coil packs and now my car is jurking when I'm pushing on the gas in gear? How do I figure out the correct order again?
@TheOriginalBeeCee4 жыл бұрын
Steven Sanchez Sorry to hear that man. But the ignition coils are all the same. There is no specific order, they should work regardless which cylinder there were on. They are the same part for all 4 of them, no difference. I’m OCD and weird and tend to keep them in the same order when I do plug jobs, but it truly doesn’t matter. If you started experiencing these problems directly after the plug job, I would be leaning towards it being something stupid. sounds to me like something might not be plugged in all the way possibly, like a coil harness isn’t clicked all the way in or something. Might not hurt even to unplug them all then plug them back in to ensure a secure connection.

Great work, and thank you for sharing! Beyond the plugs, what is the recommendation for replacing wires, etc.?
@TheOriginalBeeCee4 жыл бұрын
Jay N thank you! But there are no wires on this car’s setup, as it utilizes ignition coils. There is no need to periodically replace coils, I would only replace a coil after its been determined faulty and causing a issue (misfire). Some other things to consider depending on mileage/scheduled maintenance would be air filter, fluid changes, possible valve cover gasket, etc.
