Really well done instructs, Viktor. Questions: is there suppose to be a glove box light? There was a lot of rodent poop on our 2010 cabin filter. How do I access the firewall duct/void above the filter to thoroughly clean it and perhaps put some deterrent in the there?

@@wayditay9288 hi, unfortunately I can’t recall if this year RX has a glove box light or not. To access the cabin air filter intake, you need to remove the engine cowl cover. You can see how to do that in my spark plug replacement video kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaStoH57ZaaMeNUsi=fQXnI22CQMZ31kXD

@@Viktor_G_Automotive That process looks quite onerous for just access to the fresh air plenim duct. Is there a grid protector or cover above the filter? If not, perhaps I can send a small camera and vac into the area to clean it??

@@wayditay9288 only takes about 5 minutes to get the cowl cover off and will allow you to add a screen over the intake if you want. I forgot, I have a better video that just covers the wiper motor access for replacement without all the spark plug stuff. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6i3iGaraJafhJosi=qFeNw5J7yvGptn1k If you don’t want to do this however, yes, you could use a camera and vacuum, there is no screen blocking your way.

@@Viktor_G_Automotive Thanks, Viktor. By looking at the OEM parts location diagram there appears to be a duct connected on top of the filter assembly, which I assume then connects onto the cowl proper (where the wiper motor resides)?? If I can snake a borescope up into that area then I may be able to find where the critters' access point(s) is. If it appears to be a real debris field in there then it may be worthwhile to yank it all apart, clean it out and plug any accesses. They did manage to get under the plastic engine cover and create a nest last Winter. After cleaning it all out I repaired some eaten wiring insulation and installed an e-gadget and sprayed peppermint oil to keep them away. Seems to have worked 😁

So I found a simple way of accessing the firewall cowl area: on my 2010 there are 2 access covers, each on either end of the cowl! From those points it was easy to clean out the whole void. But there is not direct access to the cabin filter housing from the cowl. It seems that air is pulled from myriad locations, with the 2 cowl top vents being but a few of the most obvious ones. Using the endoscope I found several other open body voids that could supply air to the cabin filter. Accessing the area just above the filter yielded mixed results and would make 'metal meshing' of that whole area quite impossible without dismantling the dash and body panels. A suggestion given to me was of adding a flat piece of (1/4") metal mesh to the top of the filter. But there were no signs that the rodents actually tried to eat through the filter media -- their feces (and other debris) seemed to be fallout from another location up above, or simply 'pulled' onto the filter from somewhere else.
