2010 corolla LE cruise control main wire installation for (non prewired)

this video is to help out 2010 Corolla owners starting with 2T1 on the VIN showing how to install the main wire to the ECM into the clock spring harness pin number one the second pin is for ground if it has ground already don't mess with it if it doesn't you have to install ground and ground it to somewhere metal. Well When I started my car after pulling the whole plug off of the ecm, it died immediately, but on restart, it ran okay. I have a 2013 with the 2T1. Getting ready to 8nstall switch now.

Thanks H3n... My 2013 corolla which has the same first three VIN as yours, worked with just plugging in new cruise switch handle behind airbag. Started the and it worked. 20 minutes start to finish! Thanks

If there's a little rubber plug in the pin you can fish it out from the top with a safety pin, sewing needle , or a paper clip or any thing of that nature, and make sure you unplug the car battery first and you could just pull out the whole harness and push it from the bottom instead, it's easier.

And then once I remove the rubber plug I just peeled the new wire a little bit and I simply just stuck it in there the wire was thick enough of that it holds in Place almost the same size as the rubber plug and I only exposed about one eighth of an inch or about a centimeter of copper wire to make contact with the ECU pin

So can cruise control be installed on all 2009 Toyota Corolla LE? Because most 2009 Toyota Corolla LE don't come with cruise control from factory. Also I didn't know specific VIN starting number/letter like "2T1" requires more work due to non-prewired from how it was made from the factory. Interesting. Sorry for late reply my notifications was not alerting me. Since it's 09 I can't really be sure if different or not do to being one year older. My guess would be if you have the same engine layout as mines , it will be the case.

and one final question re: the switch - i've seen a lot of the switch kits have white connectors attached to two (?) wires which connect to the switch, and then to another point close to the airbag assembly - is this where you connected yours? i've seen another kit that has two separate wires - a ground wire which gets clamped down by a screw/nut, and a red wire but i can't tell where that wire connects to on the steering column (i think we're seeing the same PDF)

Sorry for the late reply I just noticed this message but yeah if you buy the switch it should come with a harness that plugs in near the airbag plug I'm not sure about the other wires that you're talking about but I do know some cars are not pre-wired so you have to run your own ground and Power my car was semi pre-wired meaning the ground was the only thing attached and the other wire that I cut in the video was a dummy wire for whatever reason I don't know why Toyota does that

Hello there , I have a 2011 corolla le , and I was checking the ecm in the hood, where you plugged the red wire , I have a wire already connected in that pin spot , I do have a brown wire on the steering plug , also the yellow wire that you mention needs to be cut , do you think that the wire connected in the ecm it’s already the wiring needed ? Also the yellow wire that you cut, do you by any chance know what it is ? And if cutting is necessary on that wire , should I just cover it with tape? Best regards

More than likely your car is already pre-wired maybe just try adding to switch if you haven't yet and it might just turn on there's plenty of other videos showing how to install the cruise switch behind the horn airbag cover, very easy process

H3ntairican Hi there . Thanks for the response. I actually have a switch as well but on the spiral assembly behind the airbag there’s only two plugs. One for the airbag and one for the horn .. What I’m thinking it’s maybe remove the pin for the horn harness and added to the cruise plug since that one only uses the two bottom pin holes and the horn only uses the top left. Also for reference my car also is 2t1 vin.. Best regards

Yes you are correct the open pin slot is for the cruise control. here's a little video found that should help go to exactly at the 2-minute Mark and you will see exactly what to do from there it is a Toyota Yaris but is the same thing but based on the video that wire coming out from the harness seems like a ground wire and that's all the video shows you have to just relocate the PIN to the new harness coming out of the cruise control itself , so basically you removing the horn harness and the cruise control you plug that in the same spot and just relocate the wire for the horn into the new harness kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKm1eXmhityabJI

The plastic top piece is like a dust cover there's a little zip tie there that you probably have to cut off carefully without snipping any of your wires you really don't have to pull out the harness from the ECM but you could to work more comfortable and just make sure your battery is unplugged and then you like a needle to pull the little rubber cork out

@@mcp08gt I hope it'll help you could find switches all over eBay for cheap plug that puppy in and hopefully it'll work right away because some cars are pre-wired if not then you have to run the wire like I did there's plenty of video showing how to install the switch just make sure you unplug your battery so your airbag won't Deploy on you

It's been awhile since I've done this but for what I can remember the yellow wire is just a dummy wire it doesn't do anything it was pre-wired for something else I think so I just taped it off I hope this helps.

Not 100 percent sure as im finding out from other comments that some people still can't get it to work , while others did get it to work. It just makes it seem that there's quite a few different variations of corollas out there, but i think manual corollas or toyotas in general uses an extra part to detect when the clutch peddle is pressed.

Brother i did the same on 2010 Corolla Pakistan Model. Cruise works but light doesn't come on in the instrument cluster. In my country Toyota is known to remove wiring of everything like this cruise wiring was not present. Since from the bottom side of the Spiral Cable there are only 3 wires, 1 would be for horn, 1 would be for ground and the yellow one that goes to ECM then which wire gives signal to Instrument cluster as mine does not illuminate cruise icon

Can you share which pins are still missing In both connectors of the ecu. My connectors will have more missing pins and i can check wires i don't have coming out of the ecm that you do have. Maybe it's one of those

I wouldn't be 100% sure about that the only way to find out is to check for yourself if the wires are present I can only refer to LE model since it's the car that I have maybe if you find is the same thing you can also post a video for that model as well to help out way more people out there

I wasn't too sure what an xli was so I did some research it seems to me is pretty much identical to my car is just one year older , maybe you could just try and install the cruise control switch just plug it in and see if it turns on the cruise light and might be pre-wired,

There's quite a few other videos showing how to install the switch in a Toyota is pretty similar for all of them, but if you install a switch and cruise light doesn't turn on then you might have to run a wire like I did in this video. Check the links in the description there's more details in those pages let me know if that's the information you're looking for.

The wire i used was a little thicker than the factory wires, which i bought from autozone where the fuse lights and soldering section is. I think it was 16 gauge electrical wire for cars, it's been a long while so i would have to recheck it and get back to you.

I compared the wire colors on my ECM with what is on yours and noticed that they are different, i.e., the yellow wire next to the red wire you inserted on the plug harness is actually 'pink' on mine and other wires are colored differently, though the said slot is empty, in my case. I'm afraid that i might fry my ECM if i plug another wire on the wrong empty slot. Do you think all ECMs at least in the 9th and 10th generation are wired similarly? Yeah i know that's why i said it was a quick video on the fly, but it still works, I use it every day ever since this video 😋 140 miles daily back and fourth from work. Pull down to set speed and decelerate push-up to accelerate pull back to cancel set speed👌
