Well I checked the manual and I missed that I should have changed them at 48,000 KM's. So this is the first spark plug change in the 10 years we have owned it. We bought it new, It has 100,000 km's on it now. 63,000 miles.

Hi Bruce, Always make sure to remove the spark plugs when the engine is hot. Aluminum heads are more at risk when the metal is cold. The expansion of the aluminum becomes less at risk then! Believe in my old experience in a Honda dealership ... Always interested in your story👌

Bruce the brown stain between the metal housing and the ceramic (aluminum oxide) extension is usually combustion gasses leaking up between the two. Looks like the manufacture knew when to have those plugs changer. Although most US manufacturers spec. 100K (160 kilometers) which surprises me that, that car's manufacturer is that low on miles. I wonder if the brand of plug used is inferior quality..

Hello Bruce my friend. That is the exact same engine that they put in my Hyundai elantras. 1st time I change them is always scary because they don't use anti seize so I've had some that I thought might break but I prevailed. I would however advise you to put some dielectric grease on the boots , they have a tendency to stick to the plug and come apart when you pull it off the plug. Nice work

@@BrucesShop I wasn’t sure how much, if any, oil was actually getting into the ratchets that way. After giving them all a good wipe down, some time later, I notice that the ratchets are weeping out a small amount of oil. So, they should be fully lubricated. When for instance, loosening bowl nuts, gas could run into the ratchets so good to have oil in there to start off.

Just don't buy cheap iridium plugs on ebay or amazon. There is a good chance they'll be counterfeit. For online shopping, RockAuto has good prices and ships to Canada at reasonable shipping cost for small items. RockAuto fill their orders via reputable auto parts distributors hence there is low risk for counterfeit parts making their way into their supply chain.

Just checked. Rockauto.com would be same 45$ cdn for 4 as Napa. But that included 12$ shipping. You could have added a bunch small engine plugs for the same total shipping.
@jptrainor3 жыл бұрын
@@kenhilson786 Yes, the key with rockauto is to pile as much as you can, within reason, into one order shipped from a one warehouse, or else shipping eats up the saving. For large heavy aftermarket parts, I've found rockauto shipping is not economical. In that case local suppliers or I've also used thewrenchmonkey.com in Canada. For everything where aftermarket is not okay, then I go to a local dealer (Honda).

NGK does not recommend using anti-seize because it's plugs have a "special shell metal plating." I think the manufacturer is more concerned with over-torquing that might occur with anti-seize than with seizing problems. Below is NGK's Technical Bulletin on this. Click on the PDF attachment in the first post. Having said that, you used so little and carefully hand-tightened so I doubt if it makes any difference. www.bimmerfest.com/threads/the-truth-about-spark-plug-torque-and-anti-seize.405805/
