Everyone knew that you should never charge the batteries to 100% Actually, they programmed the cars to never use the full battery capacity so that you never cause degradation due to overcharging. Dealers are more likely to honor the warranty of a truck you tow with than the engine and transmission in the Chassis of your motorhome.
@frankvanw1Ай бұрын
If I get you right you would prefer a "towable" one you pull, trailer. I agree. The disadvantage of motorhomes (any size) is the two most expensive parts, engine and transmission basically sit most of the time. Motorhome owner drives it a week or so and then does not drive it for three months (like snowbirds). Then may drive it a week and then it sits again for months. I loved to drive the van, being small enough to get on some parkways and national park trails, however, after a few years we felt it was a little too cramped for our liking. So we decided to sell it and buy a much larger Class A RV. After looking at at least a dozen of them, and seeing how cheaply and crappy they were constructed we abandoned the idea and wished we never sold our transit van. Now when we do our cross country traveling, we use our very comfortable 2021 Lexus RX 350 around and stay in hotels. We do however miss the RV parks.

I totally believe what Scotty says about RV quality these days. Back in 1973, when modern RV's were a fairly new concept, my grandfather bought a 28 foot motorhome for $17,000. It could sleep and seat five people OK. It drove with a Dodge 440 V-8 and three speed automatic, and got around 8 miles per gallon even towing a small car. I was a teenager and travelled with them several times -- don't remember any major mechanical breakdowns at all. He drove it a lot for about ten years then traded it for a new motorhome. @Ynotbehumanfirst I sold my 5th wheel approx 15 years ago. It was around 5 years old at the time. I kept up on everything, so the expense was mainly storage fees. After my first maintenance appointment at the RV dealer, l never let them touch it again. I did all the work on it myself. The so-called technicians at RV dealers are techs in name only. I wouldn't want most of them mowing my yard. If you're not handy at repairs and working with tools, they are going to milk your bank account dry. Either learn how to maintain your RV, or don't buy one. That's my best advice to anyone. My 5th wheel still looked new when l sold it. The first person who looked at it bought it. Just like a car, nobody wants to buy something that wasn't taken care of.

Scotty.... I work in the RV industry. You mention list price and sale price acting like that is a problem. That is ALWAYS the case. Nobody pays list price for any RV. Doesn't matter how much the list price is. I'd say asking price is always 30% off the list price. Most of specs you throw out are not true. Now, with that said, I do agree that there are too many problems with brand new units.

Every time in my life I get the ‘bug’ to buy an RV I just can’t make the purchase make a lick of financial sense. They are ungodly expensive, they breakdown all the time, customer service is abysmal, repair times are outrageous, the cost of fuel is astronomical. Then you have to store the thing and maintain it. If that wasn’t enough, it depreciates like falling rock. So you’re continuously losing money year over year. Then you have the headache of driving these behemoths round in traffic. Trying to even simply get gas becomes a massive headache. RV parks are spotty and inconsistent, many often charging much heavy fees than most realize, all for the benefit of staying in what amount to a glorified trailer park. Just doesn’t make sense for me.

RV production worker for 10 years, just like cars you got good ones and bad ones. Good companies and bad companies. If I had to buy an RV it would be one that sits in the bed of a truck. You get all the benefits of a RV plus it’s easy to move around and you get decent gas mileage when carrying.

All lithium batteries have a life span, measured in amount of charges I think, that degrade much more if you discharge them more than 80%. I think Lion and LiFePO batteries have a few thousand charges, but once they get overused, that can drop to a few hundred. LiFePO is safer than Lion though. LTO (lithium titanate) batteries haven't caught on as much yet. I read a while ago they have a couple of ten thousand charges, and they are the safest lithium batteries yet. Not sure if anything has changed with them since.

On what brand? Every brand has a "Similar but different" warranty. Was it on a travel trailer? Fifth wheel? Motorhome? The warranties vary depending on what it is. Caulking? Where? And what type? "Caulking" on an RV could be silicone, dicor, sikaflex... a number of things. Is it the dicor on the roof? Is it actually just putty tape? Is it the Silicone around the front cap? Did you even read the fine print? You should always read the fine print on anything, but vague "warnings" like this are just unintelligible babble from people who dont know what they're talking about.
