Thank you for this. I've had this sound for 6 months maybe more! It was jerking as well. I'm changing the coils, plugs and catalytic. I think a bad coil or plug contributed. I do have ~140k on it.

I got the cat code. Took it off, didn't have any soot or any carbon. It did however, have a lot of ash looking debris. I sprayed a whole bottle of degreaser on both sided and let it sit overnight. Rinsed it with pressure washer valve that connects directly to the water hose, and all the gray debris came out. but the cat looks in perfect shape. not broken pieces came out. I haven't taken it for a test drive as i finished it yesterday and it was late tired from working all day and come to finish putting the cat back on. and, yes, the purpose of my comment is to say that putting it back on was the hardest part. the bolt that is right underneath the driver side was the hardest because of the spring and it would not align properly and the spring was difficult to push in. I could not bolt in back on, so what i did was i pinched the spring with pliers and compressed it and held it tight with thin wire and zip-ties. this actually gave me enough length to screw the bolt back on.

Did it work for you by cleaning the catalytic converter? My wife's 2011 nissan versa with 150k miles just got the p0420 code.

My 2016 drive normal and I still get good gas miles only problem is the inside of the cat fell apart so it makes a lot of noise at idle and when Im accelerating.

I would in bolt the pipe and dump out broken material…. Keep it as it’s expensive I hollowed out one of the catalytic converter‘s and it did not give me a check engine light. If you did the same you would be probably fine unless you have to go for emissions testing FYI when I returned the catalytic converter to a metal recycler I got almost as much money as the new Amazon catalytic converters cost.

I am having the same problem with my 2012 Nissan note…I was told that it’s the o2 sensor bank 1 and Bank 2
@percyconnolly2 жыл бұрын
Mine wasn’t giving me any codes it may be 02 sensor I would pull the O2 sensor out and see how much exhaust comes out of it have a lot of exhaust comes out of your O2 sensor it’s probably a plugged cat

Question did affect shifting at all? Have a similar issue sounds like slipping high revel no go go go. Feather lightly the gas pedal gets up to speed just takes longer. Put you foot in it vroom vroom no go feels like vechical has no power but give high revs.. sound almost exactly like your but no posing or misfire noise
@percyconnolly2 жыл бұрын
A good way to check is to pull out the O2 sensor… and as the cat was plugged , exhaust was coming out of the o2 sensor bung, high flow and it should perform better. the other thing I noticed is have someone else rev up the engine and put your hand by the exhaust pipe usually there’s alot of exhaust coming out…. Mine had very little flow and was super hot!!
@percyconnolly2 жыл бұрын
Oh yes shifting late and erratic.

When I first got the car sounded like trans was going to explode. Serviced it cleaned replaced fuild, gasket sump filter, tune up and vechical passed emmsions, but has reduced power when you get on it but if your genital drive more less okay but shifts late unless you feather the Gass and at shit point let foot off the gas almost entirely. Ideas?
@percyconnolly2 жыл бұрын
Yes mine would not accelerate fast I would have to slowly press on the gas pedal to get it up to speed. I undid the catalytic converter pipe it’s just two bolts with springs on them and drove it around the neighbourhood with the open header or exhaust manifold it was super loud but it confirmed my suspicion that the transmission was still good because it performed the way it should’ve proving my cars were plugged. Prior to that I did change trans fluid, and also changed fuel pump as i thought it was fuel starvation issue as well. I would still check flow at tail pipe…first!! Even at idle there should be flow if there isn’t then it is the cat converters. $200ish dollars on Amazon

The gasket to the upper cat to manifold I tried replacing that and makes a studder/ tapping noise is it not tight enough or how did you put that gasket on ?
@percyconnolly Жыл бұрын
If your talking about the downpour right off the manifold? If your getting a tapping or studder, your cat is clogged. Get someone to rev the engine and you go to tail pipe my exhaust was very very hot and not much flow…. And that’s when the the chatter started at the spring loaded bolts at the front of the manifold. If you aren’t using the springs, or if your springs got too hot then may not be making he correct seal.

If I am replacing the entire exhaust (including exhaust manifold), should I also get a new CAT? My CATs (Versa has 2) look just like yours and aren't throwing any codes & don't rattle inside.
@percyconnolly Жыл бұрын
Depends on where you live in f you need to pass emissions you will need to replace cats . Mine didn’t thro code or rattle but one was plugged for sure

@@percyconnolly I'm in Texas. This car passed inspection as-is last year without any issue. Now it's throwing P0138 (O2 sensor 2 high voltage). I'm assuming it's because the leaking exhaust got worse. But aren't after market cats much worse than factory cats?
