And then Mikey won in 2011 on the 10th year to the date in the truck series! That race was awesome too, to see that #15 back in victory lane like it was in 2001

@friskycurtain It said to be one of the best Nationwide races not because JR won, it was that he won in the #3 with Wrangler which was one of his dad's old sponsors and it was at Daytona. IT was to commemorate his dad going into the HoF. If it was a normal race for JR and he was in a normal JRM car of his it wouldn't have been nearly as big of a deal.

Dale Sr ran this scheme in 1981 the very first time he got with Richard Childress although the 3 was stylized different back then. Dale Sr never ran this scheme with his famous 3 style like in this race. Dale Sr most famous wrangler scheme was 85-87 which is different then this one. Dale used this scheme as the number 2 then when he was with JD Stacey who bought out Rod Osterlund. He didn't like JD Stacey and left halfway thru 1981 too RCR the first time he changed from 2 to 3 but then left for Bud Moore in 1982. The Car number was 15 before he returned to Childress and the rest is history. But the number was stylized different till he returned to RCR for the final time.

Junior is one of the top 5 restrictor plate drivers of all time so all that old talk bout Nascar gave him the win is bullshit like the 2001 Pepsi 400 . Time has proved that at Daytona and Talladega he his always a threat to win and along with his 4 straight at Talladega and 2 Daytona 500 wins and look at all the times he finished 2nd in those races. I was 21 when I saw Junior win in 2001 and heard all the criticism that it was staged but 5 years later he proved it was no fluke and before his Father died in 2000 he was leading at both Talladega and Daytona but came up short.

Dale Jr is definitely amazing at plate tracks, but a lot of his early success is greatly helped by DEI's absolute domination at the plate tracks in the early 2000s. Just look at how many times Jr and Michael Waltrip finished 1-2 as proof, not to mention Dale Jr's domination in the many Busch Series races he ran and won at Daytona around that time as well. He swept the February weekend at Daytona in 2004 by winning the BS race and the 500 in the same weekend and he is one of very few drivers to ever do so. DEI's plate track program just could not be touched back then... It was great to watch though.

@@imapopo2924 I Agree Richie Gilmour from DEI was badass I should have called that out especially when MW won 3 time too and Yes JR was badass in the Bush series called the Dominator he even won at the road course in Watkins Glenn in 99 and 4 in a row at one point. In 2000 I thought the sky was the limit for him then came 2001 lost his Dad. Then that stupid crap in 2005 of giving his team to MW and concussions and so on and with out his DAD running the company it eventually started to break down. Had a good career but I thought he could have done better had it not been for fate and bad luck.I just like his humble down to earth personality and seeing him win all fired up

When I watched this race when I was 7 I cried. And I think the 20 car let mr win because he backed of of jr in turn 4.
@imapopo29245 жыл бұрын
I doubt he let him win, but I dont think he was upset that he did. Im sure everyone was happy to see it, but I highly doubt anyone would let him win if they have a shot at it themselves. He probably just lost his run at that point.
@lskiller19035 жыл бұрын
The 6 car didn't go with the 20 car when he stuck his nose out, the 20 probably would have won if the 6 would have went with him so the 20 car jumped back in line. That's why he didn't pass the #3 but they had a good run on the 3. The 20 car would have dropped back like a anchor, without the 6 car going with him.
