This helped me decide whether I want to do the same thing my 2008 F150. I was thinking the switch would just pop out but looks like the plug cord is too short even if I could pry it out.

Nice job! Good video and just what I needed! My 2013 F150 is doing the same thing and it makes me crazy. Usually relent to using the radio controls, but damn, that's why you have steering wheel mounted controls, right?! They're "supposed" to work! My 2013 is low miles (95k) but has been doing this for about 2 years. Exact symptoms your KR had. "liked" and subscribed! We're in the Keller , TX area and just retired from oil and gas, FWIW!

Glad to be able to help, and dagum you're right up the road from me lol. Congrats on the retirement, if you ever need some help with your truck we are just about a half hour south.

@@GreenCastleGarage I just finished researching the part number I need for my 2013 F150 Platinum and it seems there are two different part numbers one with navigation, ending in AA and one without nav, ending in CA, according to 5Star Ford in NRH. I honestly don't see what navigation has to do with that switch, there are two different part numbers and the only difference in the description is navigation versus no navigation.

@margaritabuddy I'm not sure what the differences would be, but it may be a pin location in the harness. I don't have time to scour the wiring diagram right this second, but I'll check it tonight because now I'm curious. The switch I linked works great in this king ranch and it has the navigation option as well. Also it's been so long, I forgot I had World Oil and Gas pod playing lolllolol. When you said that earlier I was like oh what a nice guy lolololol.

Okay, got my SW6879 switch pack installed for my '13 F150 and as expected, your video was a big help. Took me a few minutes more than expected since I'd not done it before. My job difference was my switch pack "was" held in by 2 T9 screws (top and bottom of switch housing so you couldn't pry the switch out of the housing) and my T9 wrench was too long for the upper part of the switch housing. When I pried on the switch body, the switch and trim housing popped off because of the T9 screws. Thankfully, I was able to loosen the top screw and then use needle nose to finish removing! Also, my 3mm allen wrench was too short for the airbag removal, so I tried a 7/64" SAE wrench that was longer and it worked fine. Looks like a 1/8" would work as well to loosen the airbag assy. Please feel free to delete the post, just thought I'd share the differences I encountered. Since my switch used the screws, the switch and the housing came out in one piece and all of that snaps in place in two places. Took a little less than 40 minutes as a first timer and the left side switch should go faster now that I know my way around the housing/screws and tools at my disposal. Thanks again.

Awesome, I appreciate the feedback. It's all about just helping the next person, so the more information, the better. Congratulations on getting it done, always feels good to fix something the dealer charges an arm and a leg for lololol.

I had (have) this problem on my '13 Lariat a few times. I've replaced the switch a couple of times (I'm on the 3rd switch now) and it's gotten to the point to where the switch doesn't do the trick. I took a good look at the pigtail connector that this switch plugs into and found a nice burnt part in the connector which I'm 99.99% is the problem and could have been the problem from the start. That's going to be fun replacing that.

That plug is attached to the clockspring, it actually is not a terrible job. Just make sure you rent a steering wheel puller from the parts store. Thanks for the feedback as well, I didn't realize the plugs were burning up.

I see you have the nav unit and the original switch didn’t have the “OK” in the lower right (SW-6879). The switch you installed has the “OK” and is made for the non-nav unit (SW-6880). Did you notice any differences other than a non working OK button? The one you replaced the original with is much more common and about half the price for an aftermarket one on Amazon.

@ericfielding85 Not going to lie to you buddy, we never even noticed that lololol. Thanks for pointing that out. The only steering wheel controls ever used in this truck are the volume controls, so it's been a non-issue.

@@GreenCastleGarage Thanks for the reply and the video! That’s exactly what I was thinking but I couldn’t find any info about it online, heck even the owners manual doesn’t show it like our original switches. I’m not too concerned about the phone hang up button even if that doesn’t work.

Just recently changed mine because my volume buttons where skipping stations instead of the sound. And the new one does the same😢

Ohhh noooo, have you tried updating your sync? While it's rare I've heard of that causing the same problem as well
