Two things that really stand out to me: Raisman and Memmel. The sheer athleticism of both girls is breathtaking. First, OMG Aly is so insanely strong and smart and focused. The fact that she did not come off those bars (and didn't break her arms!) and fought so hard...wow. She's a tiger. So impressive. And second, Chellsie Memmel epitomizes the word Olympian. She should be every little girl's idol, and not just if they are gymnasts. She is fierce and amazing and tough and talented and mind blowingly awesome. Epic. I will never get over the fact that she was denied a deserved chance to go for that 2012 squad.

I've never really seen anyone do a 3 1/2 twist on floor like that and she rocked it! Edit: she's also had a lot of injuries in the past too so I think that's another reason why we don't see her on all events often

Chellsie Memmel is one of the most consistently solid gymnasts EVER. I don’t think she ever ended up winning Olympic gold, but I’m not sure how/why-Ive always thought she was incredible! So wild to go back and watch all of these past competitions now that it’s 2020/post-“beginning of the Simone Biles” era and see how SO much has changed in the sport! 🙈 Making me even more sad that they had to postpone the Tokyo Olympics to 2021, but on the other hand glad I’ve had all this free time during quarantine to brush up on my WAG history and knowledge! 💁🏼♀️😍😆

I think she got injured before the Olympics(in 2008 at least. Marta stupidly didn't give her a chance in 2012 despite how consistent chellsie is) and that's why she wasn't able to perform. Chellsie is such a fighter and injuries are probably the only thing that's stopped her from making it farther sadly. She's one of my all time favorites and she's definitely a rock! ✨

@@claudiacarpentier1456 She would have definitely done floor in team qualifying without her toe injury. Whether she did in team finals would depend on how she did and scored, but with Douglas badly screwing up floor in qualifying there is a very good shot they use her in team finals too. Plus in an ideal world they have nobody with pressure of doing all 4 events in team finals. Absolutely no chance she would be used on bars or beam at the Games, even in qualifying. Ross was stronger on those events, and was brought just to do them. Weiber and Douglas were always doing AA. Raisman stunk on bars, but she was always going to be given an AA shot in qualifying.
@SchocoMacGirl4 жыл бұрын
She would have done floor in Qual and maybe Even in Team Finals :))
@b-man-2H3 жыл бұрын
Yes she was injured and that held her back, BUT I also feel her routines were mismanaged and it hurt her in her all around competitions. Her 3rd pass on floor was nearly a built in deduction. She could have easily replaced that with something else that would have retained her difficulty but taken out that near automatic error. Same things things her second "low to high" bar skill. The one where she quickly swings around the bag on her hips, I believe Svetlana Horkina did that skill. Well MyKayla struggled with that skill and she had a few falls in the 2012 season because of it. Again, a skill that could easily be replaced without losing value. Hell, with how strongly she swings on the bars she could have replaced it with a vabluwen (excuse my spelling) that would have increased her difficulty while also taking out that skill that she has frequent troubles with. Again, to me, this was mismanagement of her routines! Her coach was a fantastic vaulter and coached MyKayla to being an amazing vaulter, but she needed help with some of her other apparatus.

When the commentator here related that she was telling her coach that she wasn't ready and her coach responding that she was never going to feel ready, I was reminded of another DWTS participant, rodeo champ Ty Murray saying that he was approaching his first dance like he approached bull riding. "You're never completely ready; it just becomes your turn." Something like what her coach was trying to tell Shawn, I think.
