2011 Ford Explorer headliner removed 2012 2013 2014

This shows what lurks behind the headliner like the moonroof and sun shade motors. To remove you'll need a 7mm and 8mm ratchet or nut driver, for the grab handles and a T20 torx bit for other items (lights and visors etc).

Hello, My power shade slots where it holds broke and the shade retracted really hard back into the roll. The two tabs on both sides are broken. Is there a way to replace those without removal of major components like the liner and or glass?

My headliner won’t roll back correctly I think it may be a motor that’s not rolling but I just leave it closed or let it bunch up I guess . I don’t want to take it apart and mess up other more important parts

How did you get the glass down without power.

Would you tell me what the part number is for the glass tilt/open.... I called my local dealer and they kept insisting I bring it in and since there are two motors I dont want to order the one for the sun shade.

I believe the motors were the same, just the programming procedure sets it up. I'd suggest you jsut start off with the dealer and twll them you have an 1234 Year Explorer and offer them the last 8 of the VIN. If they can't look your part up from that - call another dealer.

What signs did you have that your motor went bad? I'm having trouble with my sunroof not closing. I took it to the dealership and sad it was the switch. So i order a new one still having the same problem.

Winston w The motor died with the roof tilted open and wouldn't move. I tested the switch with a meter myself. The procedure to calibrate the motor after install is a bit tricky. Here is the Ford procedure (key on means push button on but not start) If initializing both motors do the glass first before the power shade. Glass procedure: Driver or passenger front door must remain open during entire procedure Ignition on Within 5 seconds of ignition on complete all of the following: Ignition off Ignition on Push tilt switch for less than one second then release Push and hold the tilt switch until full glass open and closed is witnessed (this can take up to 20 seconds to even start) Release switch and verify one touch open, close and vent operations. Shade procedure Shade fully open Driver or passenger door open Ignition on Close shade halfway Within 5 seconds Ignition off Ignition on Pull shade control for less than one second and release Pull and hold shade control until shade moves fully open and then back to fully closed (this can take up to 20 seconds to start) Release switch and test
