Great video. Ive only done plugs one other time, and that was years ago on my 94 S10. I was determined to do this job myself since the dealer wanted close to 4 bills. I was able to get the back plugs out with a 5/8 spark plug socket that had a built in swivel. Worked pretty sweet. AC Delco plugs and OE performance wires plus the cost of the socket, I was able to do the job in less than 2 hours at a cost of $154.00. Saved a lot of money. And yes, I even bought a Monster. That's the most crucial part! 👍 Thanks again!

I just was to reach out a say thanks for the video it saved me a trip to the dealership, found one plug with oil on it and decided to change all the plugs and wires. Thanks again

On the passenger side I took off wheel and fender skirt sat down and got them all quickly. Took longer, obviously, but easier than I expected. Added 30 minutes to the job, I guess, or less, but I'm working in my driveway and not in a hurry, thanks for the post

#8 plug alternative removal - First put on the 5/8" Spark plug socket then instead of swivel use a 3/4" socket on the end of the spark plug socket and it give you exactly the amount of room to get out - I worried a swivel would twist and break insulator off..

I broke the very last one on the right side by the transmission! Luckily the hex part of the plug was still on I was able to remove it. Thanks for the video it was helpful.

Some tips: Anti-seize on plug threads, gap the new plugs - I just put ACs in mine and they were not set correctly, and emphasize holding the socket, extension and wrench firmly so that you don't put side pressure on the plug porcelain and crack it.

It's time to change them on my 2011. Been looking and that number 8 looks like a tough one to get to. I can buy the wires and plugs cheaper at a part store than at the Chevy dealer and having them put them in. Not sure if you're going to like the Bosch plugs. I tried them on my 98 and went back to the AC/Delco and it made a world of difference. Have heard others that were not happy with them. I plan on sticking with AC/Delco plugs and wires. Thanks for the tip on that back plug though.

The parts store is the way to go. i was in a bind cause my truck was bucking when i came to a stop and had a hell of a time leaving the light or a stop sign. but i didn't have a lot of money and time was a factor so i just chose what was cheapest in my area and went to town. so far i haven't had a problem with the bosch. i may change them to ACdelco when the time comes for another set. glad the video helped. good luck.

I did number 8 on Mine today, put in 5/8 socket first then extension and then breaker bar, use a pipe to attach to the breaker bar for longer leverage and then slowly crank it up just enough to loose it so you can finger unscrew it

Man I did this today but couldn't get #8 for the life of me. Used the Bosch too seem to be working fine for me.

I am getting my plugs and plug wires changed and a new fuel filter...how much time and labor will this take in a shop??? I was told 3 hours labor?? seems like a lot after looking at these videos??
@spiva278 жыл бұрын
Wanda Berryhill it took me about 45 minutes to an hour. I was rushing a bit trying to beat the weather. the shop may be taking into account other vehicles they're working on at the same time. to me, 3 hours seems like a good trade off to not doing it yourself.
@wandaberryhill15028 жыл бұрын
Thanks Sean they are charging me $200.00 labor...better than doing it myself for sure.
@rickdeskis8 жыл бұрын
Wanda Berryhill - The Chevy dealer just outside Philadelphia quoted me $500. Parts for AC Delco wires and plugs is around $70. I'd pay $200 but not $500.

Hey Sean your advice is ok . But you never mentioned why your replacing your ignition wires and spark plugs. Also you don't mentioned about gaping your spark plugs. Thanks
@in_the_building16 жыл бұрын
Hey did you notice any difference in how the engine runs or anything like that
@spiva276 жыл бұрын
I did. The reason I replaced the plugs and wires was because I was having a bit of a stutter coming to a stop and off the line. After I replaced everything, it ran 100% better.

yes. It was bucking pretty bad when i came to a stop and rough on the takeoff. haven't had an issue since.

Awesome, thanks. Mine has the slightest vibration at idle and hesitation sometimes when coming off the line on a turn...like turning left from a stop light. I'm swapping mine today. Hoping it smooths out.

that's a good thing. it should be done as preventative maintenance like the book says. my problem is i forget and it becomes more of a reactive maintenance.
