Much better video than the others on this topic, understandable and good production techniques. My dealer charges minimum $400.00 to do a plug and wire change, this saved me a chunk of change and time.

Hey you did a good job, one quick tip for you and every one else 2-3" piece of rubber hose that fits snug on the porcelain of the plug makes starting the plugs in the holes much easier.

The last plug is much easier, all of the passenger side plugs are easier to access, if you go through the passenger side wheel well by removing the inner lining. Learned that after hitting a deer. It’s also an excellent way to access the first two O2 sensors on both either side

I started with the #8 plug first...used a short 3/4 socket on the plug socket and it was easy. Only needed a 3" extension on the rest with out a swivel. Absolutely turn new plugs in by hand first like you mentioned. Good vid

Based on your instrument cluster, it looks like your truck is a "2007 Classic". I have a GMC Sierra "2007 New Body", but the engine compartment looks about the same. I think 2007 was the only year GMC did a dual model. It is such a pain when ordering parts because "Classic" is the default, and I always need to remember to check that it is New Body and not Classic.

Thank you! I figured it didn't make too much sense to keep repeating the same thing for the plugs that took no real effort to remove.

Thanks for the shield info. Haven't changed plugs on my Silverado in 10 years (why I'm not passing smog), but when the shield came out with the wire, I thought I'd screwed something up! lol Thanks again!

I did a similar plug/wire change video on the same year 5.3 L but yours shows the #8 plug better than mine. I did mine different but good video. BTW was that coil pack on #1 missing some plastic? @2:38
@dnlmachine4287
@dnlmachine4287 3 жыл бұрын
Use these pliers on the METAL part of the boot shield: @t Lever against the engine valve cover, exhaust manifold etc. Use a small piece of plywood or metal if you need to change your lever angle. Do NOT lever against the colis or anything plastic, fragile etc. Try to twist the boot to break its grip before levering it off. Remove the brake booster hose at the brake booster to get access to #7, rear driver/left side. If your wires are old - plan on replacing them. They will likely break when removing. Use the same pliers or long reach needle nose pliers to remove the broken bit of metal wire-to-plug connector. Stay gold.

Its recommended to install the plugs dry. Adding anti seize can add lubrication making it easier to over tighten and strip the threads.

Great video. I have an 08 Yukon Denali with the 6.2 Vortec. I imagine it's pretty similar. Had the dealer change plugs at 110K, but they didn't do wires. Wondering if I should circle back and replace the wires myself now at 127K.

Very similar engine when it comes to the spark plugs. If the wires haven't been changed since it was new, I'd recommend replacing them since you're at 127k.

Hey Harry! I bought my truck in the fall of 2015 with about 154,000 miles. I replaced these plugs and wires at around 205,000 miles. I did replace the plugs a few times before then but felt it was time to replace the wires as well.

So if you're like me and had problems with the last plug closest to the passenger seat... What I did was place my 5/8 deep well from underneath. You can see it great. Then I used a short 3/4 socket to place over the 5/8. I didnt have the swivel thing and was able to remove it from the top of the truck. Pray for me as I try to put one back into the same spot 😭
