These are great cars to consider now as a second car or a car for your kid. It is close enough to being a Mercedes without the completely unreasonable costs of keeping a Mercedes on the road.

I currently own this car (Signature version) and it's amazing. It drives like an S class Mercedes with the reliability of a Lexus. The EQUUS lineage actually started in 1999 and was sold in the US beginning in 2011. Regarding Mercedes and BMW, their highpoint, in terms of build quality and reliability, ended in 1991 (for Mercedes) and in 2001 (for BMW).

I owned 2012 model when it first came out. I had it for 7 years with no issues. Very nice reliable car for the money. It rides very similar to a Lexus LS460. I still regret selling it.

I have a 2013 azera, which is basically the next level down from the equus. I love it, its way nicer than my aunts avalon. Very very comfortable. I wouldnt choose any other car in its class.

One of my uncles had one earlier this year. I wish he had kept it. I would love to have this car. A good used one these days probably would be around $30,000-$45,000(it costs about $60,000 when it was new). Expensive, but it would be well worth it.

Much less. KBB is pricing used models at 8 to ten grand, 9 being the average.
@johnnymason2460 Жыл бұрын
@@scott8919 That's even better. It would definitely be worth it to have this car. The fact that I could be driving a car with great air conditioning, a CD player, and a decent V8 engine is very appealing to me.

This is what we call a sleeper. I wouldn't be surprised with a tune and a supercharger this car would slap 5.0 mustangs. It's got dual overhead cams with 4 valves per cylinder. Wish the 4.6 in my Vic was pushing that kind of power.

The air suspension is the weak link. I have a 2013 signature and replaced my suspension with the coil springs and shocks from a 2015 k900. The k900 is the twin of the Equus.

After watching this, I can’t believe this car debuted 13 years ago. Feels like Hyundai/Genesis has only been trying to move upscale for a few years. Time flies.
@L4sleeko Жыл бұрын
The thing I find intriguing about this car is that before the Genesis and Equus models, if you compared Hyundai to Buick for example, Buick was the much more prestigious brand. Enter these two models and Buick doesn’t have anything even close in it’s lineup. Suddenly it launches Hyundai way ahead and I find this somewhat of a head scratcher. 🤔

At this point parts would very likely be an issue. Pretty much any older luxury vehicle (other than a Lexus) is going to be a headache once the warranty is over.

As someone who is the shop foreman/manager at a repair facility, you can't get parts for this. Hyundai is not alone...GM burned so many suppliers during the bankruptcy parts for Cruze, Malibu, Impala and the Holden based cars....parts for those are also Unobtanium!
@350zlover2 Жыл бұрын
The cars have been very solid as they age from what I have seen, not as good as a Lexus but I believe it will still be a good used luxury vehicle.

As watching this review, I have never heard of this car!!!! I think it looks nice!!! But I am old enough to remember the Hyundai Excel , I remember in middle school late 80s Hyundai was cheap and always thought of as a want to be Honda….. So my opinion of this brand is jaded…. I never considered buying a Hyundai or Kia… I wonder how many people purchase this particular vehicle and if they are still running well??? You know for sure that Lexus and Acura of this era are still on the road.

Price when new started at $33K for a "base" Genesis. An Equius, specked out with the 4.6 and options ran around $43K. I've ridden in, but not driven one. I got the impression of a Korean Town Car. The back seats felt better than the front. I guess it was intended to drive the boss or VIP around in it's home county. Hyundai and Kia luxury cars seemed to fall into the slot that was once filled by Mercury or Oldsmobile. Above a Ford/Chevy, but not quite a Lincoln/Cadillac.

These are great cars but new like it or not especially with luxury car a lot of people are looking for prestige ie a badgge from Germany
@ravipeiris4388Ай бұрын
Lexus wasn't a name to brag about in 1989 until it was in the mid-1990s. Genesis is a relatively new marquee since 1999. What's Lincoln or Cadillac's excuse considering the massive depreciation (including Mercedes and BMW) that have been marquees for decades before Hyundai came onto the scene.

The thing is, I dont want a Mercedes or BMW. Ill gladly take my reliable, inexpensive Hyundai over an overpriced German car thats going to fall apart and cost way more to fix.

I was really drawn to this car. Sure, it doesn't carry the prestige of the traditional brands in this class, but it also doesn't carry any of their downsides. The ONLY downside to this upstart luxury sedan was the still terrible Hyundai dealership experience. Ask my wife how much she "loves" them.
